4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: OCT 11, 2010 The Lure:
Multifarious hoppiness emulates grapefruit, pine trees and lemons. Supporting malt is perceived, but without any distinctive signature. John Kimmich is the king of dry hopping on the east coast.
Tiny bubbles appear within the citrusy and peppery hops. Their rising bitterness reaches grass and resins, lingering beautifully, Soft biscuity and bready malts participate, as well. This recipe seems quite similar to Two Hearted Ale’s, so why isn’t this lauded as one of the country’s great IPAs? The perfume is as beautiful, the hop flavor is perfectly integrated to the cereals, the mouthfeel is suave, there are two alcohol points less, so more drinkability, and perhaps a tad more bitterness. This is brimming with quality and vivacity.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Beautiful lacing punctuates the glass on top of the hazy dark gold to orange hue, headed by a white foam. Ultra zesty, limey, grassy and strikingly orangey juicy and fresh, well cut hops. Developing a nice spiciness, notably peppery in mouth, it never loses focus, being in communion with its light-medium bodied knotted up by extremely engaging soft, almost cask-like carbonation. Exquisite balance, cleanliness and quaffability. Shining skills.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On draught, 4/16/05 at the brewpub. Light golden beer with just a hint of light amber. Light chill-haze, small white head, decent retention/lacing. Aroma has only a light amount of bitterness, though a good deal of dryness on the end. But it is mainly a sweet caramel and honey mix. Flavor is honey, vanilla, sugar, light caramel up front, only growing bitter towards the end, and with not that much hops flavor, just drying bitterness. Some citrus, but nothing here really gets me overly excited. As Barry says, this one gets lost amidst a sea of similar IPAs. Though it is certainly not bad, nothing stands out as being particularly excellent. Medium body, somewhat chewy/sticky. At least it’s not overhopped. . .

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: NOV 22, 2005 Original Rating (6-3-7-3-12=3.1): Grapefruit hop nose. Fairly dark orange-brown with thin white head that diminishes to cover. Sweet and fruity up-front chased by fairly aggressive graperfuit hop flavour and strong bitterness. Medium bodied but low carbonation detracts from overall enjoyment. On tap at the Vermont Brewers Festival.
Rerate (8-3-7-3-15=3.6): Fresh orange-citrus-grapefruit and resiny hops in the nose with underlying bready, toasty malts apparent also. Clear golden-tan body is topped by a low but lasting white head that recedes to partial cover with some lacing. Toasty malts are well-balanced with leafy, herbal, grapefruit-citrus hop flavours and moderate finishing bitterness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with beerbuzzmontreal, MartinT, Rastacouere and Yowie.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2005 Draft - Dark amber in color with little in the way of carbonation. Well balanced and quite citrusy. Excellent beer ... I’ll be back.
4/9/05 - Oncask at Pub - Very strong dry hop aroma and initial bite. Awesome as a cask beer.
