2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: SEP 30, 2008 Draft at brewpub, tan head, deep brown color, malty and herby aroma. Just a funny tasting brown ale, the sweet was ok, just not enough hops. Until it’s gone John won’t divulge the secrect ingredient. I say it’s figs. Try it.
The secret ingredient was raspberry.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at the brewpub - Served in a tulip glass. Poured a fairly cloudy dark brown in color with a creamy light tan head that both hung around and stuck to the side of the glass with some excellent lacing. Aroma was malty and sweet with just the barest hint of spicy hops. Flavor was quite malty and a bit too sweet for my taste and for the style. Needed a bit more hops to cut through the brown sugar and caramel. A good beer with a powerful kick, but just too sweet to enjoy too much of it at one sitting.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
UPDATED: AUG 14, 2008 In short: A too sweet herbal brown ale on steroids. Kind of sickening
How: Tap at brewpub. Fresh first batch, brand new creation
The look: Brown body topped by a long-lasting small be
In long: Nose is rough (!). Wood, alcohol fumes and sweetness. Taste is brutally uninteresting. Extra sweet beer with brown sugar and crème caramel and no hops to balance it off. Other flavours elements were nuts, plywood and a whole bunch of herbs. Alcohol apparent. Except for a problematic Grote Bruin that I’m looking forward to resample I have never struggled to finish a glass of beer at The Alchemist (one of my top-5 brewpub ever) but I just couldn’t finish this one. I was told that the Alchemist had an interesting original brown ale and this was a Misinformation in more ways than one.
