3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Stine (1398) - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA - AUG 9, 2011
A very dark brown, chocolatey and thick; aroma of cookie like malts, chocolate, tobacco, dark fruits. Warm, welcoming, sweet. Tastes calm and cool; anise, licorice, cinnamon, wood. Not rich, or even close to full flavored. Light palate; bitter and dry at the finish; a throwback; if the flavor was just a bit more fulsome it would work really well.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BroSpud (1177) - , Massachusetts, USA - AUG 5, 2011
On tap at brewpub. Poured dark brown into a pint glass. Not completely sure this was the pappys, could have been a different porter they were serving at the time. Decent taste but seemed a bit thinner than expected.

Poured a deep, dark, opaque brown with nice tan head. Pretty much a traditional beer, but done very very well. Tasted strongly of chocolate and some coffee, and very smooth on the mouthfeel. Really a great porter.

On tap at the brewpub on May 7, 2011. Pours a very dark brown with a finger and a half of a tan head. Sits around for a bit and leaves good amount of lacing. Flavor began with roast and dark bread with a bit of bitterness in the finish that was a bit dry. A classic example of the style and nicely done.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured near black with a brown head that dissipated slowly to the edges. Aroma was full of dark grains and a bit of roast with a slight dryness and pine. Flavor began with roast and dark bread with a bit of bitterness in the finish that was a touch dry.
3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Thorpe429 (3823) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 14, 2011
On tap at the brewpub on November 4, 2010.
Pours a very dark brown with a finger and a half of a tan head. Sits around for a bit and leaves behind a pretty good amount of lacing, just like all of their beers seem to; the insane lacing is a recurring theme. Nose brings some roasted malt and a bit of chocolate, but is pretty plain.
The taste adds in more with some chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, and a hint of vanilla. There are certainly a few flavors here, but not all that much depth overall. Medium body with some good roast aspects. A pretty good beer, but didn’t quite stand up to many of the rest of their brews.

Draft @ the brewpub. Black pour tan head. Light roasted chocolate , licorice flavors, and a slight tinge of mineral. Has a nice bitterness to it as well.
