2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 omhper (15956) - Stockholm, - AUG 28, 2011
Bottled. Cloudy yellow, rich head. Aroma of paper with slight notes of banana. Sweet with medium body and clean, rounded mouthfeel and a lemony tingle ans some sugar. Low bitterness. A bold wheat beer with clumsy flavours and low drinkability.
1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 TheCellarer (20) - Tromsø, NORWAY - MAY 8, 2012
500 ml bottle shared at beer session IXX in Tromsø 220312. Massive, dense and nearly impenetrable white head. Little lacing. Body resembles thin, hazy yellow pineapple juice and sadly this also translates to the strong aroma of overripe fruits, vanilla and other sweet spices. Flavour similar to aroma, though not as strong. Watered palate. Sourish finish unable to counter too-sweet aroma and taste. Avoid.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 5, 2012
On 14th Jan 2012 I decided to have a lager/pilsner/helles/weiss beer evening: a 500ml bottle of this beer was taken during that evening. Sadly the bottle was two months past its best before date, but it didn’t ruin the tasting. Poured into a ‘Licher’ badged Weizen glass it looked the part: cloudy, dull yellow/old gold colour with a good solid white head sat on top.
Old school Hefeweizen: wheat esters, banana and vanilla smells and tastes. Add some pepper, lemon flavours, plus a honey melon and you’ve just about got the taste characteristics correct.
Really pleased I found this in an Eastern European store while staying in Cambridge last year, pity I didn’t check the date before shelving it though.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Rune (4922) - Tromsø, NORWAY - MAR 23, 2012
500ml bottle, by courtesy of Elisabeth and Stefan. Huge, concrete, chalk white head resting over a hazy, yellow-golden body. Fragile lacing. Smell of ripe banana with sweet spices. Sweet banana and vanilla in flavour followed by hints of citrus tartness to the finish, but not enough to counter all the sweetness. Bland impression (shared at a drinking session in Tromsø, 22.03.2012).
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Benjii (2328) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - SEP 17, 2011
On keg in Riga. Pours a cloudy blonde colour with a medium white head. Aroma typical of a hefeweizen with lemon, banana, clove and and wheat characters. Similar flavours with a lemon citrus tang. Medium carbonation, light CO2 prickle and a foamy mouth-feel. A little white pepper to finish with a long banana linger. A little thin and falls a bit flat for me.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JoeMcPhee (6959) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 25, 2011
Hazy golden yellow pour topped by a fluffy thick white head. The aroma has quite a bit of the typical banana esters. Soft wheaty tartness with a bit of light lemon as well. Soft palate with a decent hint of marshmallow and sweet melon. Decent hefeweizen.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 dnoaksson (403) - , SWEDEN - AUG 10, 2011
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 estpiwo (985) - ESTONIA - JUL 14, 2011
Bottle. Hazy yellow color with white head. Fruity aroma. Flavor is yeasty, some fruity, little bit hops. Drinkable.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 SaintMatty (2841) - Uppsala, SWEDEN - JUL 15, 2008
Draught (Melnais Kakis, Riga) - Hazy golden/yellow in apprerance with a small foamy head. Aromatic and slightly spicy aroma with a hint of lemon meringue and banana. Refreshing taste with lemon and a light spice element along with the banana notes featuring again. It would be great if they bottled it. A nice wheat beer.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 ekstedt (3779) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUN 12, 2008
Sampled at Gothenburg Beer Festival 2008. Hazy golden with a medium white head. Fruity and earthy aroma with some cardboard notes, not much of typical Hefeweizen aromas. Dry finish.
