Bottled. Aroma like Finnish mämmi, with some dirty bitterness in the taste. Almost black with a big white head. Long finish, very malty.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 vyvvy (2798) - Florissant, Missouri, USA - FEB 8, 2008
Pours dark brown with a crimson hue and a large soapy tan head. The aroma has roasty malt, lots of milk and cream. Medium / thick body with pleasant soft carbonation. The flavor starts like the aroma, but with more roast and less cream taste. There is also lots of dark and milk chocolate. The finish is lightly sharper, but with the same basic taste. A decent baltic porter.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 robforbes (1317) - Bremerton, Washington, USA - FEB 1, 2008
purchased at red apple in bremerton, washington.
pour is black with a reddish tint, medium size creamy mocha head, excellent lacing through the whole trip.
smell of cocoa, vanilla, licorice, a little coffee, malts in the back.
there is a lot here for the taste, thick and creamy, malt, semi-sweet chocolate, toffee, vanilla, touch of licorice, end is a little dry and just enough bitter.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 Maria (7805) - Thisted, DENMARK - FEB 1, 2008
Transparent, dark brown, nice golden head. The aroma is sweet and malty and the flavour is sweet with notes of candy sugar, alcohol and a brief note of licorice, the bitterness is low. IMO it’s far from a porter, it’s more like a sweet Dunkel.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 McGarnigle (443) - Rochester, New York, USA - JAN 31, 2008
16.9 oz. with different label than pictured. Dark color beer, but when held to the light can see some red (and clarity). Nice tan head. Initially, tastes like a doppelbock: big malt, licorice, some alcohol coming through. Only the ending is of coffee. Body is medium with soft carbonation. Overall, kind of sloppy, but decent.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 faroeviking (8598) - Kongens Lyngby, FÖROYAR, FAROE ISLANDS - JAN 29, 2008
Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown colour with a light brown head. Roasted caramel and roasted malt in the aroma. Good mouthfeel. Smoky roasty sweet caramel flavour with some bitter hops. Bitter smokish roasty finish. Finally a good beer from Latvia!
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beershine (4561) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - JAN 16, 2008
Pours deep, almost opaque mahogany brown with intense malt aromas rising from the glass and filling the air. Nose is total malt and caramel extravaganza. Leaves grandma’s lace doily patterns on the glass. Mouthfeel is pure velvet to boot--gorgeous! Best mouthfeel I’ve had in a while. Taste is smooth, simple, and sweet but not at all sticky or cloying--finishes clean with some burnt notes. This is much better than I expected.
