Black with no foam. Very fruity "portierish" aroma. Full bodied and creamy palate, very sweet flavor. Flavor comes up slowly, not much of a cutting hops. Mildly alcoholic ending. Needs some more personality and dimensions to be great porter, nice one though.

poured a dark, dark brown. Head was thin but a dark tan. The aroma was chocolate, and roasted malt. Flavor was definitely dark chocolate. Coffee and smoke was also present. I liked this.

Poured a dark indigo brown with a light tan head, and some lacing. It was a stretch to find caramel, chocolate, and light cream. Chocolate, dark fruits, smoke "barkey?", and some oak as well. Light alcohol finish. Mild carbonation. nice sweet finish, very coffee like.

UPDATED: JUN 7, 2004 Pours dark brown with garnet red highlights under a thick, dense off-white head which gradually disappears to a blotchy thin sheeting. Some minimal lacing remains. Beautiful assertive nose of sweet dark malt, caramel and dark roasted coffee. On first sip carbonation is nicely subdued, but mouthfeel is on the thin side. Flavor is overtly sweet, suggesting brown sugar and molasses. Gradually a mild amount of hop/coffee bitterness appears in the finish, but sweetness really dominates here. In general, flavor never seems to stand out and develop as nice as this porter’s aroma does.

Pours a deep brown with red around the edges. TALL foamy brown head. Lovely sweetened chocolate aroma. Brown sugar, caramel, and hints of coffee in there as well. Well formulated porter. Sweet taste with some coffee-ish bitterness towards the end. Taste is definite chocolate, some roasted malt, caramel, and a bit of a nutty flavor. Very smooth feeling in the mouth. Slides down you gullet. Finish is, well, sweet. Damn good beer! Wish I had more! Nice way to get Latvia out of the way.

UPDATED: OCT 5, 2004 Batch 1B04. Good enough pour, chestnut brown, black streaks, some light violet-magenta hues. Big creamy mocha head. Aroma is quite good, nuttiness, caramel, espresso, brown sugar. Flavor however, is a whole new ballgame. Extremely sweet through most of the beer. It starts out with a light nuttiness, but that’s about the limit of the complexity. Just gets caramelly with a roast and coffee flavor that lingers and dosent do much. VERY sweet, ztrvz wasnt kidding. Medium body, slightly syrupy, cloying. Disappointing, to say the least, very lifeless, filtered I believe, boring, old tasting. Darn.

Dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma is sweet, licorice, molasses and raisins. Smooth and creamy feel, with little carbonation. Flavor is sweet, almost syrupy. No bitterness, this one is dominated by malts.

A garnet body beneath a thick, fizzy head. Fairly strong malty nose strong on chocolate, toasted bread, dark, overripe fruits and a hint of caramel. The body is moderate at best and certainly leaves something to be desired. The chocolate and fruits dominate in the flavor and are joined by omnipresent alcohol. Sweet, sticky finish. A little too sweet and not thick enough for my taste, but an otherwise acceptable beer.
