Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a nice head. Aroma of roasted malt, with bit of chocolate, coffee and trace of dark fruit. Taste of roasted malt, with chocolate, coffee and caramel. Mild bitterness ad the finish is quite dry. Fairly full body, witha smooth and creamy texture. Has a nice warming feel to it. Great beer to kick back and relax with.

NB: Bottled last half of 2009 (expiry date July 2010). Nice, beige head which lasts for 1-2 minutes. Nose: Roast coffee, chocolate, dark syrup / caramel, sweet dark malt. Then gradually more fruitiness. Taste & palate: Medium to medium rich body. Slightly sweet (off dry). Nice attack / opening with dark caramel maltiness. Medium short aftertaste. Quite nice, aged (5 years old), commercial, standard Latvian porter. Has clearly benefited from the bottle ageing.

Flaska. Mörkbrun-röd öl med smutsvitt skum. Dofter av kaffe, karamell och rostad malt. Smakinslag av desamma samt lakrits och choklad. Mjuk munkänsla. Lätt beska.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Mahogany with a frothy tan head. Starts sweet and fruity. Quite vinous, but with some bitter liquorice and chocolate notes. Nice chewy finish. Tasty and easy drinking.

Had a few of these at a nice little Russian restaurant right near the Ballston stop just outside of Washington, DC. Dark brown pour. Huge malt and caramel bomb. Excellent pairing with the rich food we were enjoying.

Pours dark with a small tan head. Malty aroma with a hint of roasted coffee. Taste is soft, has begins with malts, then coffee and has a nice dark chocolate finish with slight bitterness. Soft mouthfeel and mild carbonation. Very nice although I agree there’s a small metallic taste to it which is a bit distracting.
