Great sweet aroma. Nice grape, caramel, alcohol, toffee tones present in the aroma and flavor. As it warmed, it lost it’s grape/wine tones and became slightly more alcoholic in nature. Not really characteristic of a Baltic porter, but really nice nonetheless.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Drew (2411) - Kent, Ohio, USA - NOV 21, 2002
Black-Liquid-Velvet. the smoothest, sneakiest porter i’ve tried yet. more sweet than coffee. for some reason, the alcohol sneaks up on me with this one. dreamt of vampires - perfect for halloween.
4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 pivo (2540) - GERMANY - NOV 4, 2002
Toasted grain nose, dark clear brown color, and nice foamy tan head. Roasted malt taste laced with coffee/espresso tones, syrupy, peppery end. Creamy mouth feel. Very very smooth with a full body. Excellent porter!
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 YogiBeera (2436) - Hamburg, GERMANY - NOV 3, 2002
Yes, I like it. Chocolate, malt, alcohol and caramel nose. Dark brown red body with a little head, that leads to brussels lace. Chocolate, espresso aroma. Roasted. Very spicey too. Long lasting bitter aftertaste. Yummie
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 hennes (932) - Fountain, Michigan, USA - AUG 26, 2002
The best that can be said is that it has a good deal of dark, plumsweet and tobacco heady flavours. The worst is that it gets cloying without really being thick, with a hint that those plums were past their prime, the tobacco a bit stale and coffee grounded. Available at Smitty’s in Grand Rapids, Mich.

I took some hostilility for drinking this beer. Some Red Wings fans were quite upset that i was drinking a beer from the home of Irbe’s birth. Looks like tommarow I’ll have to get something Czech. fruity wine like nose. Black in color, very little to no head. sticky thin semi sweet chocolate tht coats the mouth. quite warming with some noticable alcohol presence. worked well after our short cruise.

Interesting beer. Very dark in colour, with a carmamelish sweetness and a fairly high ABV. Different than most Eastern European porters that I have had in that there is little if any roasted flavour.

This porter has a deep dark taste. After 2 I noticed a nice caramel falvouring. I would say this is a good after large dinner beer. Sveiks Tautiet!
