4.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 dreamloomer (66) - Warsaw, POLAND - AUG 22, 2010
Very dark brown, but lighter than the classic 22 P Baltic porters. Small head, beige.
Not very strong aroma - caramelly and toffee.
Very full and rich taste, with malty, sweety, caramelly, toffee, fruity and nutty notes, which give way to dry, slight bitterness.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Kavu (938) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - AUG 15, 2010
Pours black with a medium head. Mostly roasted malts in aroma and flavor. Quite unsurprising but high quality porter.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Onslow (639) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - AUG 8, 2010
Pour from a 500ml bottle. Dark brew with three fingers of light brown head. Head fizzles in a few minutes leaving a frothy film and ample lacing as the glass is drained. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Taste is sweet, with a rich combination of caramel, chocolate, dark coffee characteristics. A bit of bitter hops in the finish partly offsets the sweetness. A little ethanol flavor in the aftertaste is a minor distraction. Mouthfeel is excellent - rich and creamy, very satisfying. A first rate porter.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Maris (466) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - JUL 22, 2010
From a 500ml bottle on 21/7/2010. Has a strong aroma of coffee, caramel and brown sugar. In the mouth, this is a real sweet one, with caramel and dark chocolate notes predominating. However, the sweetness is kept in check by a moderate but reasonably long bitter finish. The carbonation is low, making it easy to drink. The sweetness might put some off, but this is an eminently drinkable, top notch porter.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 schuimkroaat (410) - Leuven, BELGIUM - JUL 21, 2010
500 ml bottle, ’bbe’ Feb 2011. Very dark ruby with a massive, solid beige head. Sweetish, a bit perfumed, aroma with some hint of mussels or other shellfish (!) - even more so than Scheldebrouwerij’s Oesterstout. Rich, full, sweet-bitter malty taste. The bitterness lingers on in the aftertaste.
