taunusmies (217), Finland Apr 23, 2008 Dark brown colour, almost black. A medium beige head. Smooth malty roasted taste with toffee, fruits and dark chocolate. Firm, thick palate with a short aftertaste.
JoeMcPhee (3586), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 28, 2008 Dark brown beer topped by a lovely tight-laced brown head. Quite sticky and persistent. Aroma is a little bit plummy and licoricey with a soft toastiness and some toffee as well. There is also a bit of burnt date sweetness. Very low bitterness, but lots of rich sweet rummy flavour. Fairly charry, but not at all astringent. It’s a pretty nice baltic porter. A touch of soft vineous fruitiness on the back. I quite like this. sneagrams3 (1314), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Jun 27, 2008 Tasted 6/23/08. 500ml bottle. Filtered with a deep brown hue and a ruby highlight. Spotty beige head. Sweet malty nose. Hints of toffee and burnt toast. Medium bodied with a big bitter coffee acidity. Mild hops. Good lively body. Tart and tangy. Toffee and cocoa. This is a stand up brew! probstk (622), Nepean, Ontario, Canada Jun 23, 2008 1 PT 0.9 FL.OZ. bottle from sammy (thanks!), served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. Batch 1B110852. JN15/08.
App.: Very deep brown-black with a slight reddish hue and a decent tan head.
Aroma: Lots of pears and hazelnuts, reminds me of a cream sherry, some raisins and figs, light chocolate, molasses and treacle, a touch of vanilla.
Palate: Medium+ body, basically no carbonation, a bit powdery and slick.
Flav.: More molasses, chocolate and raisins than the nose, the pears and hazelnuts are more subdued, vanilla; fairly sweet, a touch bitter, a touch boozy, with pleasant chocolate and molasses to finish.
A nice example of the style, I think. gnoff (2353), Göteborg, Sweden Jun 12, 2008 (Bottle at Gothenburg Beer Festival 2008) On June 12, 2008 Clear dark brown color, brown head. Sweet licorice scent.
