wunderbier (1261), Finland May 2, 2008 Purple-tinted black crowned by a creamy, brown head. Melty dark chocolate, coffee and star anise swirl together over tangy malts, picking up a basil spiciness. Boldly sweet malts mix it up with plums and chocolate before a roasted-bitter finish. Oily and thick, soft carbonation.
Significantly sweet, well roasted, feels bigger than 6,8%.
50cl bottle, best before 20.08.2008.
yesyouam (369), Fairport, New York, USA Sep 21, 2008 Aldaris Porteris is a clear, dark red beer with a dense beige head that shows nice retention and leaves excellent lacing. It has a sweet, malty aroma that has some roastiness to it. It has a smooth medium body with a syrupy finish. It is sweet, malty and roasty; a little sour and a little bitter. It’s pretty well balanced. This was a pleasant surprise. I got this for 93 cents! MiP (6029), Flensburg, Germany Sep 10, 2008 Bottle, 6.8%. Black colour, small creamy light brown head. Distinct liquorice flavour, quite sweet with a hint of salt. Slick mouthfeel, mild carbonation. The bitterness is probably high, but it is not felt much against the sweetness. The alcohol is only noticed in the late finish when it warms my nose a bit. Indulgence (124), Ajo, Arizona, USA Aug 22, 2008 I am partial to this one, since my wife is from Latvia. I’ve had this on several occasions in the country of origin. This one reminds me of a sweet malted milk shake and some coffee grounds thrown in, some dark prunish fruits as well and some herbalness, dark brown almost opaque and it attains an immediate 3 finger sticky head, settles to a fine layer of soapy lace, flavors are dark fruits, malted chocolate, some bitter coffee and herbs, palate is pretty thick, somewhat syrupy... I’ve drank a lot of these so I must like it. Give it a try. LooseCannon (680), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Aug 21, 2008 16.9oz bottle, batch nr. 008. Pours deep brown in color with full foamy brwon head. Aroma sweet, caramel, malt and some chocolate. Taste caramel, roasted malt and coffee with bitter finish. Archibaldo de la Cruz (140), Finland Aug 18, 2008 Bottle. Dark reddish brown colour with a medium beige head. Roasted malt aroma. The flavour is liquorice, roasted malt with hints of dark chocolate. Some bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied and smooth mouthfeel. Could have been stronger in the taste but is was still very good.
