2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
A small sized white head that poured creamy and smooth with fine-small sized bubbles that quickly dissipated. The body was slightly hazy and carbonated with a golden hue. The nose was malty, light hops, sweet and some fruit notes. The flavor of this beer was sour, malty and lightly hopped. The mouthfeel was smooth and this was a light bodied beer with very sparse lacing.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
This bottled brew poured a medium sized head of fine to medium sized mostly lasting white colored bubbles that left behind a hazy dark yellow colored body and a fair lace. The aroma was doughy and malty. The mouthfeel was tingly and smooth from start to finish with a malt hop butter bread flavor. An OK beer but nothing special.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Light golden color, small head that faded leaving nothing behind. The aroma was malty and hoppy with maybe a faint presence of fruit. The flavor was weak, malt and hops slightly metallic and over all nothing special. It's worth trying i guess but nothing worth getting in a twist over to find.Just another run of the mill lager.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
The pour a typical golden yellow with the normal bright white head that is portly in size and the texture frothy, with the lace a thin while veil to somewhat obscure the glass. Model lager nose that is sweet malt, crisp and clean with the matter-of-course sweet malt start and the top cadaverous. Finish is lightly carbonated and the hops apropos to the style, actually sub-standard to the average lagers, totally forgettable.

No No No. This is a very pale yellow with floating things which probably arent supposed to be there. I haven't heard of the Zelta having a second fermentation. Smells sour. Tastes bitter and does have a sourness to it. Uninteresting Latvian beer.

I'm not a fan of blond ales, but an opportunity to try a beer from Latvia is not one to miss. I am glad I tried this because it is a well balanced blond with a warming alcohol content that never dominates. The malt body is firm with a gentle nod toward sweetness, and the hops are aromatically bitter with a mild citric zing. Mmmm. This is a very tasty blond! Strongly recommended.

The common beer in Riga bars. Good on tap and a reasonable example of a European lager.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
UPDATED: OCT 10, 2003 Very foamy head of pure white bubbles that does not last long. Ok carbonation. Color is a pathetic of light, pale yellow. Typical light malt/hops aroma from imported lagers. Initial taste is metallic and slightly sour and altogether weak. Finish is bitter with minimal hops. Not a very good beer. Try the porter from Aldaris. Much, Much better!

Ah, the Legend of Zelta. Nice gold packaging even. I fought through all those dungeons and slayed the monsters with nothing but my sword, boomerang, and some well placed bombs. I even solved a few puzzles and got swords from weird old men. It's too bad the princess turned out to be a skunk.
