JK (2356), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Apr 20, 2008 Thanks to Skyview for sharing. This one really is not very good. Grain aroma and grain flavor. Dark red color and a tall head. There is something off here. It doesn’t taste m’uch like a doppelbock at all, and certainly not a traditional German bock.
phishpond417 (1162), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jun 4, 2008 Pours a dark mahogany colour with a full tan head. Caramel, slight boozy notes in the aroma. Taste is full, lightly carbonated with noticeable, caramel, toffee and apples flavors. General_Gao (2368), Iowa City, Iowa, USA May 13, 2008 Draft at the brewery. Poured a clear ruddy orange-brown color with a light tan head. Aroma was of raisin, molasses, steeping barley, brown sugar and vanilla. Lots of smells. Delicately sweet and medium bodied. I tasted dry fruits, some white paper, earthy fall leaves, and a hint of cough syrup. It smelled better than it tasted. "A touch rough" as the previous rater put it. JPDIPSO (4189), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA May 9, 2008 Copper to umber color with a moderate soft peak off-white head. Aromas of caramel, toasted malt, mild husk and hints of DMS (grain silage). Full malty flavors. Some mild metal and grain as well. Full feel. Earthy finish. A touch rough, but a solid brew. MatSciGuy (171), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Apr 23, 2008 [growler] Shared by skyview. Clear ruby pour with a large malty aroma. Flavor is caramel malt with not a whole lot more. Pretty thin mouthfeel. Overall a subpar doppelbock. OSLO (590), Minnesota, USA Apr 22, 2008 [Growler, thanks Skyview] Pours deep red with a good tan head. Fairly sweet aroma with a good deal of malt. Taste is vegetal, malty, with a little fruit and the grain really showing through towards the finish. Medium mouthfeel with a long finish, which in this case is not a good thing. Really not too good.
