This medium-bodied ale is dark in color and deceiving on the palate. The glassy smooth finish of this beer is your first hint that dark in color doesn't always mean heavy in stomach.

pretty good beer; one of their best, I think. Poured with a tan head and some lace. Opaque dark blackish brown. Nice roasty malty nose with a little dark ripe fruit, cocoa, coffee, a hint of vanilla and chocolate. Flavor is very similar and yet fairly dry. In spite of the richness it’s fairly drinkable. But at the same time very full flavored so other flavors in my mouth clashed a bit. Nice finish with no off flavors. Not too boozy. Label reminds me of Thailand.

On tap at Ale Asylum, Dark roasted aroma, with alternating shades of brownie chocolate and mild coffee bean. Flavor is a well done blend of roasted malt, bakers chocolate and slight hints of mocha, texture is as smooth as can be,aftertaste of chocolate bakery and a sip of coffee. Well done

12 oz. bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours a clear dark brown color with a small beige head that doesn’t last. The aroma is dark roasted malts, a touch of coffee, tobacco, and some caramel. The flavor is in line with a classic porter: roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, with a nice bitterness to the finish. Medium bodied and appears to be quite sessionable.

Dark brown, nearly black pour from the bottle. Smallish tan head. Tobacco, dark chocolate, coffee, caramel all present in the aroma. Slightly bitter finish keeps things from getting muddy and allows the different flavors to emerge as dominant after each sip. Very nice lacing which lasted the length of the entire glass. Thinner than most porters, but that’s intentional, so no points off there. Just over 5% ABV, but still a fine porter option for session drinking.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear dark brown color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee and chocolate malty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted dark chocolate flavor with medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer.

On tap at the brewery. Pours oil black with a thinnish head that dissapates quickly. Nose is malty with lightly roasty and chocolatey tones. Flavor is same with a slightly acidic aftertaste. Pretty thin on the mouth but overall a very drinkable porter.

12/31/2008 and 1/21/2009: Ale Asylum Contorter Porter has a traditional deep brown color with a thin tan skin on top. The has a really appetizing roasty, coffee aroma. The flavor is also quite robust with heavily roasted malt accompanied by chocolate and coffee. There is also a nice herbal/grassy acidic coffee-like bitterness in the finish. I really like the amount of roasted barley flavor in this beer. It also has a medium body and is easy to drink. This is a porter that I could drink one after another and enjoy every one quite thoroughly. This is another solid Ale Asylum brew.

12 fl. oz. bottles given to me by my good old buddy Jason. Thanks man! Rating #44 for this beer.

Thanks to hopdog for passing this bottle onto me. Pours a deep brown almost black with a medium creamy tan head that left some lacing down the side of the glass. Aroma of grainy malt, chocolate notes, light coffee, some roasty notes, caramel, almonds and cocoa. Flavor of roasted malt, coffee grinds, dark chocolate, caramel and nuts. Solid porter.
