COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This medium-bodied ale is dark in color and deceiving on the palate. The glassy smooth finish of this beer is your first hint that dark in color doesn't always mean heavy in stomach.

Thanks to Steve for the bottle. A: The beer pours almost black in color with a finger of off-white head. S: A nice roasted malt aroma to this one. Some sweet toffee and molasses. There is some dark chocolate and even a bit of sweeter milk chocolate. Maybe a little vanilla. T: Slightly watery, but otherwise good. Lots of dark chocolate and cocoa with plenty of roasted malt. As with the aroma, there is some subtle vanilla character to it, too. M: On the lighter side of medium with medium carbonation. O: A nice aroma to this and a fairly good flavor too, just a bit watery.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured clear dark brown color with an average fizzy brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee and chocolate malty aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy roasted dark chocolate flavor with medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid complex beer.

Bottle bought is Wisconsin. Pours black, with a thickish oily look. Bold chocolate and roast aromas. I got more chocolate than coffee in flavour. A good example of a solid American porter. Good drinkability, and way to end the meal.

Sample at the brewpub. Pours nearly black with a medium tan head that recedes gradually to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and coffee. Light-bodied with flavors of roasted coffee, chocolate malt and mild piney hops. The finish is roasty with a coffee and malt aftertaste. Decent overall.
