3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20Sampled via growler shared during Surly Darkness Day 2012 in Brooklyn Park, MN. Pours a clear brown colored brew with a thick off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some spotty lacing and a thin white ring. Aroma of roasted dark malt, a hint of rye character with some spicy citrus and grassy hops. Taste is full bodied, heavy on the malt at first followed by a spicy citrus hop flavor. Finish is semi-sweet with a short lived spicy hop aftertaste that even has a little alcohol warmth.

On tap at the brewpub. I can’t tell you how happy I am to see AA doing new limited beers! I hope to see more soon and wish more local places would do more one offs. To me this is a Mad Town Nut Brown with extra hops. I like it, but I wish there were more hops on this one. Still glad that I got a full pint. Good job AA and keep the new brews coming!

Interesting flavor. Somewhat subdued hoppiness, slightly sweet. Subtle. Not as good as their other pale ales imo

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2012 A new Ale Asylum brew?! This new brewery is already paying off. Pours a clear dark brown with an off white soapy head, spotty lacing in the glass, aroma has quite a bit of hops with a little bit of citrus but the malt comes through as well, the flavor has a nice fruity front end with hops and a sweet finish of malt and caramel in the finish, nice mouthfeel, solid new entry from Ale Asylum.
