This is a brown ale of the older school variety from before people started putting tons of hops in every single beer and it is pretty decent at that. It pours a murky brown color w/ only a small ring of head and a few spots of lace. The nose is sweet malts and a touch of grassy, herbal hops. The flavor of this is a bit on the sweet side but it’s not cloying or overbearing, just w/ a nice subtle malt backbone. The carbonation is mild which suits the style and it finishes just a bit sweet and sticky on the palate w/ some lingering bitterness and astringency. This is a nice and drinkable brown ale if it had just a little more malt character w/o being any sweeter, I think it would be excellent.

Pours a brown in color with a thinner, lingering, light beige head. The aroma has nuts and caramel, bread, and some floral impressions. Nothing to complex. The taste is a bit sweet and is heavy in caramel. It has some earthy malts, a little bit of nuttiness, and maple. Simple here, yet pretty good. Aftertaste is caramel. Medium in body, and chewy in texture. Average carbonation. This one isn’t very special, but its alright.

Grabbed this bottle from a "create your own six pack section". Some aroma of sweet malt, but also an unusual aroma, almost like wet tobacco. No born on date on this bottle so can’t confirm how old it was. Nice deep brown color, head is off white, holds well. Sweet roasty malt is the first taste. Has a metallic off taste that I quite can’t pin point. Cereal like taste also. Finishes with a balanced bitterness and notes of dark chocolate. Will try again with a "for sure fresh sample".

This is a great nutbrown, and my favorite from WI brewers. Not overly complex, but it always has a fresh, clean taste. Taste and smell is malty, with little hop bitterness.

Definitely love Ale Asylum. This is a great change of pace for them. Dark, clear pour. Not nutty in aroma, but nutty & earthy in taste. Great cold weather choice!
