On tap at the Sugar Maple in Milwaukee. Medium brown in color, fairly clear with a light beige head. The aroma is nice and nutty, pretty spot-on for what I expect of this style. Great complex nut flavor, with hazelnuts and chestnuts standing out along with a good toffee presence. Medium-bodied with a decently smooth mouthfeel. Overall very good for the style.

12oz bottle from Steve’s Liquor and More in Madison, WI. Pours a cloudy, brown-amber tinted body with a finger-width, dense and frothy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is caramel and nuts with a light cocoa, sour grain, a light toasty biscuit, and some floral hops. Flavor is similar. Thin caramels and nuts up front with some floral hops and grains without the sourness that I detected in the aroma. A light cocoa and toast grows slightly towards the end before this finishes dry, somewhat thin, and nutty with a light bitterness and hint of roast. Medium length aftertaste following a light body and moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent brown ale. Has some nice nutty, cocoa, and toasty flavors, but a bit thin and grainy without any remarkable qualities. Okay.

Hey, not bad. I drank a bottle of this beer only an hour or two ago, and I can’t remember a thing about it. So, apparently, not too good either.

Bottle: Deep caramel, not too dark for a brown, thin sudsy off-white head, sparce lacing. Nutty nose, slightly bready and malty. Smooth on the tongue, malty, slight hint of tobacco in there which was a little unexpected. Getting some really fresh woody notes, its very very minor but its there. Moderate body and mouthfeel. Low bitterness is what I like about this Nut Brown. Malty, nutty, with some tobacco and very very faint woodiness. Decent stuff!

Ar: Hazlenuts, toffee malt. Nice.
Ap: Amber, lightly hazy, 3/4" off-white head.
T: Loads of sweet hazlenut malt. Toffee. Mild hop bittering.
P: Medium body, a bit sticky.
O: Very good session brown.

Brown with red hues. Large bubble carbonation with head that fades quickly. Light roasted malt, brown sugar aroma. Caramel and roast malt flavor with some nuttiness and dry finish. Very light on the palate and an easy drink. Well made, low on excitement scale.

Sample at the brewpub on 10/16/10. Clear reddish brown pour with a thick tan head. Malty aroma with a bit of a nutty character and caramel. Malty and caramelly flavor with a bit of nuttiness and a sweet finish.

This brown smells of caramel with hints of sweetness, perhaps maple or butterscotch. Pours an amber with a haze and a light, foamy head. Tastes a bit on the sweeter side, but has a full flavor with a pleasant finish. Build is on the lighter medium side with a smoothness on the tongue. Carbonation feels light. Overall a very drinkable brown with a easy taste and finish

Bottle. Pours a duller chestnut color with a small frothy off-white head, seems thin. Aroma is sweet caramel with a hint of roast, bit of sourness, some piney hops also, bit of fruitiness as well, touch of alcohol as it warms. Flavor follows, duller caramel, just a bit tangy, thing, almost sour, some light roasty notes, bit of milk chocolate, but a tart fruitiness that is off putting, light piney hops upfront, finishes thin and watery. A bit watery, soft full fluffy sizzling carbonation. Obviously much better as it warms.

Pours copper/brown with a dense tan head. The aroma has smooth toasted malt, cream and light nuttiness. Medium / full body with some light prickly carbonation. The flavor starts with rich toasted malt, nutty flavor, phenolic spice and hints of coffee. Fairly rich for the style. The finish is very nutty, toasty and smooth. Very nice brown ale.
