Bottle. Pours a murky dark brown with a big off-white head. Aroma is sweet, with malt, dark fruits, caramel. Taste is sweet and a bit thin, of malt, juicy plums. Lingering watery sweetness. Not bad.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a reddish brown with a nice enough looking head that seems to be shrinking quite quickly. Certainly this has a pleasant enough aroma that is at once chocolaty and has some bits of molasses & roasted nuts. At the same time it smells a lot like the raw crystal malt that I found in my cupboard tonight. The flavor has a good enough bitter hop kick to make it interesting, with some good malty chocolate and roasty tones getting in there as well. It’s well balanced and easy to drink indeed.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Madison’s in Madison, WI. Pours a paleish brown with white head. Nose is toasty and fresh, bready grains dominate with a hint of herbal hops. On taste, the grains really play well, keeping it fresh, never tart. Light cocoa and toasted bread notes. Finishes dry. Very good brown ale.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at the brewery. Pours a clear amber brown with a small off-white head with good retention. Aroma of caramel malts, nuts, vanilla, and wet tobacco leaves. Flavor of caramel malts, nuts, brown sugar, tea, and tobacco, and a metallic note. Light-bodied, with moderate carbonation and an almost watery mouthfeel. Quick finish. I like my brown ales more roasty and nutty, and this just seems like a fairly weak example of the style. Still not bad, just simple. Sessionable. I should also remark that this has been my only disappointment from an otherwise very impressive brewer.

12oz dalekliz picked up in Milwaulke. Pours brownish with a bubbly head. Nose is sweet, with a touch of caramel. Taste is sweet, slightly rich, not a terrible nut brown, decent for a style that is so often messed up.

Pours a nice light brown color with a small, creamy beige head.Aromas of nutty caramel malts, maybe some hops peeking through. Great nutty caramel flavor. Hops entice your tongue just a little in the beginning, then fade away.Slight bitterness on the ending. Good brew, but unfortunately a little thin.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a copper-brown, slightly hazy, with lots of effervesence, crowned by a huge foamy tan head. Nose is mostly malt with notes of caramel and chocolate. Taste is very malty, with added flavors of chocolate and carmel. Very creamy on the palate. Finishes with a hint of dry hops, not sweet. Goes great with hotdogs, brats or burgers off the grill or most any hearty pub fare.

UPDATED: SEP 2, 2010 Wow, great brown ale here. Second best to Rogue’s Hazelnut brown nectar for me. Copper colored pour with a nice nutty, burnt sugar, malt aroma. Flavor slightly of hops, burnt sugar/caramel, and nuts. Good stuff!!
