The nose is dominated by big crystal and caramel malt with very minimal hoppiness. Seriously misses the mark for a DIPA in my book. There’s a bit of resiny hops, but not enough. The bitterness is certainly there in the flavor, so much so that it comes across as harsh and overbearing. Heavy crystal malt lays the base layer for all that bitterness and doesn’t seem to do anything positive. The mouthfeel is heavy and dense with light soft carbonation. Some lingering crystal malt and resiny hops with some noticeable alcohol. This one was a dud for me. swoopjones (1957), Buffalo, New York, USA

Taste is decent but not huge bitterness, malts are pretty heavy here. Medium bodied. Nice beer theisti (1730), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 7, 2010 Rating #1700. 12 oz bottle sent to me by my 2009 winter Secret Santa. Pour is a hazed copper brown with a two inch tan head. Head falls slowly with nice lacing. Aroma of resin hops along with some pine notes. Fresh and clean nose. Taste is big resin bitterness, immediately scrapes the tongue. The pine is present in the longish finish. There is also a grassy mineral malt in there too, though the balance is well towards the hops. Like the nose, the taste is fresh and clean. Residual hops are very long lasting. Palate is medium, a bit oily, active carbonation. Nice brightly hoppy beer - thanks Santa. Bockyhorsey (2571), Mesa, Arizona, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 30, 2009 Bottle. Had a pine and floral aroma with some sweet malt not exactly the crisp aromas of most that light up the nose. Amber body with small off white head. More of a malt backbone and little heavy to drink. Hoppy flavor was there on the finish. Just little thick bodied and didn’t really get the refreshing ahhhhh. Petrucci914 (619), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Bottle at the Comet Cafe in Milwaukee. Pours a rich amber color with a medium off-white head which leaves a few lines of lacing. Aroma is caramel malts, citrus hops, tangerine, and orange. Taste is much the same. Tastes more like an APA or IPA than a DIPA. It actually has a more pungent malt backbone than I expected. Not too bad. Juelze (941), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2009 Pours a rich amber color with with thick off white head. Aroma is of intense floral notes, tangerine and orange. Slight pine aroma also wafts in. Taste is Centennial all the way, but there is a bit more caramel backbone in this then some other Centennial IPAs. Finishes clean with a resinous hop mouthfeel.
