I rate beers I think significantly better than average, simple as that. I am not into showing off through word games. :)

12oz bottle - I don’t recall how I got this, but it was probably someone from Wisconsin. Caramel malts and dark fruits dominate the aroma. Seems to be lacking any peaty notes in the aroma, but shows up in the flavor. Raisin-y, dried cherries, with medium sweetness and a molasses-like bitterness. Carbonation seems a bit on the lower side. Nice beer.

Had it on tap at Ale Asylum in Madison Wi. Poured a clear a,ber hue with a light head. Slight hop aroma, very tasty scotch ale.

Draft at the brewpub. Dark, muddy brown. Delivers a rich malt character in an unassuming manner. Nothing quite stands out, other than very decisive richness and body. Otherwise it hides its 7.2 very well, a great malt bomb. (#5114, 7/2/2013)

Aroma is dark fruit/almost vinous and a strong hint of sweetness. The flavor is dark fruit/mildly vinous, medium sweetness and tart finish.

Really nice balance between sweetness and mouthfeel. Had a really curvy sort of heavyness, deffinatly present but not truly heavy. Sweetness was kinda the same way deffinatly present but not sugary or overly carmely. Usually not a huge scotch ale fan but like all styles of beer the really good ones make you forget all the ones you didn’t care for.

UPDATED: APR 24, 2013 Loads of malty, caramel with a hint of peat aroma. Looks like liquid leather, mahogany. Tastes much like it smells. Malt forward with a hint of earthy roasted malt. Enough carbonation to keep things lively and balanced. A oily, sticky, solid scotch ale.

Decent drink, though a little on the thin side. Flavor is typical of scotch ales but there’s a sourness that becomes overpowering if drunk too fast.

12 ounce bottle. Low aroma of smoked wood chips and molasses. Appearance is a deep brown-red mahogany, lots of lacing even though there’s practically no foam. Taste is ashy, tobacco smoke (maybe that’s the peat), sweetened barley, bordering watery. At least the abv is low key. Palate feel is pretty light, heavily carbonated, bubbly, watery. Overall, I’ve had better from Ale Asylum.
