COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tart and bready, this East Bay Sour is a funk forward lactic mutha that finishes nutty, malty with a touch of oak. Six months in the barrel gave the brettanomyces lambicus and the lactobacillus brevis plenty of time to build that mouth watering, puckering bite that we know youve learned to crave. Wheat and Pilsen malts were "sour mashed" for 16 hours then paired with a touch of aged saaz in the kettle.

Was odd to see so many low rates of this beer. Bottle I shared with Westmeister was fanatastic. Bottle - Receive in Trade

Bottle thanks to Bruce. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity sour citric aroma. Fruity sour tart citric weak funky yeasty flavor. Has a fruity sour tart citric finish.

Pours a light orangey gold color with a little to no head. Its mildly cloudy, sort of a dingy, dusky liquid. What bubbles were produced fade away almost immediately, but its a Berliner, so thats not a surprise. The aroma is odd. Theres a lot of wheat, which seems a tad funny. It has a very bready, cereal-ish flavor. At first, there was a very nice tart lemon note and some nice funk knocking around, but that all dissipated or was overwhelmed by the odd graininess. It smells like warm, old, wet, moldy grain. The taste takes this same profile in a worse direction. It has moderate to medium sourness. It tastes like spoiled grain, messy funk and soured wheat. There might even be a little diacetyl thrown in the mix. Its just a mess. Mouthfeel is oddly thick. I really need to stop buying Ale Industries beers.

Pours a hazy gold with no head. Aroma of funk, big funk, oak, lacto and white wine. Taste is sour, funky, oak, slight vinegar, vinous and fruity. This is like a hybrid between a Berliner and a lambic. Very good.

12oz bottle pours a clear golden with a thin white head. Aroma is tart and fruity, with a mild oak aroma. Taste is tart and funky, nice bready malt, oak, nice nuttiness and yogurt lacto, finishing with a sour bite. Overall very nice, although based on the flavors I might have guess this was more of a Gueuze than a Berliner.

shared with EricTeusink. based on some of the previous poor rates it is quite apparent that we had a good bottle. in fact, i loved it. A tad funky, lacto, medium tart, lemons, crisp malt backing, a some nice floral hops. Lovely.

Good funky "barnyard" aroma, great blonde look, great sourt/tart taste. The only bad thing I can say is the ABV is so weak its almost doesnt qualify as a beer! Double the ABV, this one would be great.

Tasted on 2/19/14 from a capped 12oz bottle purchased at Jug Shop. Pours mostly clear golden with a thick, rocky white head that leaves rocky lace. The nose is wheat bread forward with some lactic tartness and a touch of fruity gooseberry. The flavor is much more tart and sour forward with the same gooseberry, and the same touch of lightly sweet bread malt. The body is light with a bit of a sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a long very tart lactic finish.

2013 bottle, I assume, thanks to Bytemesis, drunk on 1/30/14
Small off-white head rapidly fizzles to the edges atop a moderately hazy, copper hued body.
Actually seems to be as much or more brett in the nose than there is lacto, which is interesting and a change of pace for the style (though not technically "to-style"). Lots of leather and band-aid very crisp and clear. Light lemony-yogurt notes intermingle on the finish. Aroma strength is medium with just an ever-so-slight touch of diacetyl on the finish, as well (little touch of butter).
Sweeter in the mouth than Id expect for the style, with brett acids washing over the back of the throat while up front its quite lactic-sour. Unfortunately, diacetyl is quite prevalent on the finish, leaving a big buttery popcorn flavor that blunts the beautiful brett and lacto expressions. It certainly dosent ruin the beer, as the acids here are so well done and deliciously lip-smacking, but it certainly puts a bit of a damper on things. Medium body could be a little toned down as well, but this is still a very nicely made (albeit strange rendition) b. weisse. Glad I got to try.

Bottle: Cloudy, straw colored and light to medium head. Very lactic aroma. Funk, chemical, bretty, wheaty. Sour but not fresh. Old citrus. Dry, very sour and low bitterness. Elegant, long and acid. Unclean palate. Fresh but not refreshing. Dirty brett edge. Interesting but not right. Looks more like a gueze or something like a flemish beer. Also the weird bretty character I saw in the Bear Republic Cuvee. Close but not good enough.
