This is my first beer by these guys and I’m impressed. Wonderful toasty rye aroma. A dark brownish-orange color that hints at it’s flavor. A hoppy Irish Red without the big maltiness. Medium body. Very drinkable. Nice toasty bitterness.

5000 (4102) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - MAY 13, 2012
Bottle:   Brownish, dark, seems a bit muddy, large pillowy light beige head, fairly sticky lacing.   Soft cocoa and earthy nose, a bit of rye as well.   A bit more assertive rye on the tongue.   Has an earthy or organic malt sort of profile.   Cocoa is there, but diminished.   This beer feels somewhat dry.   As it warms it gets a bit more grainy with an earthy tinge.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Smidgen of citrus peel like hoppiness on the exit.   Wished this one was a touch sweeter, with a bit more caramel.   Would have made it a bit more interesting.   Otherwise not bad, but seemingly pedestrian.

It was a nice beer...at first sip a bit of sweetness... Eventually evolved to hoppiness...which was a little weird. Not like other IPAs that might have a lingering piney afterglow. Nice brown color... Went nicely with pork chops. ---Posted via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz bomber from "Lifesource", Salem Oregon. $4.95 Dark chesnut brown with a really impressive thick, creamy light tan head. Mostly hoppy/fruity type aromas..floral and slightly resinous. touch of rye but it isnt great Hmm a strange one mostly malty coffee type bitterness.. resiny hops..and again a spcy rye backing..but again its very slight. Quite nice mouthfeel to this one..very smooth and rich. A very nice beer but i feel cheated at the lack of the rye aspect Id be willing to consign this to the CDA category

Bottle with Carla. Pours a hazy ruby brown with off-white foam. Smells malty with hints of pepper. Tastes malty with lots of bitterness both from hops and the rye, with hints of black peppercorn.

On tap at the brewery. It pours dark amber with an off white head. Lots of spicy rye in the aroma with some caramel, toffee, and piney earthy hops. The flavor is similar and nicely balanced between earthy, spicy rye and some brown sugar, caramel, and hints of grapefruit. Very nice beer that I’ll be seeking out again.

Sample at Rubicon on 8/7/10. Pours clear red/light brown with a medium tan head. Sweet caramel nose with some bread, fruit and a bit of hop. Candyish fruit and bready caramel malt flavor balanced by a semi-dry hop finish.
