Tap at West Coast Brew Fest 2010. Hazy dark brown pour with a good foamy tan head.Smells rye. medium body; strongish carbonation. Flavor is lots of rye with lots of hop. Finishes a bit sweet - which is over matched by lots of hop. So bitter!!

brokensail (10641) - Orange County, California, USA - DEC 25, 2012
Almost mahogany in color with an off-white head. Nose is heavy on the rye, molasses, and toffee maltiness. Some floral and earthy hops, a bit of pine, and a mild roast note. Flavor has a moderate bitterness to go with a strong malt profile of molasses, toffee, and rye. Hints of chocolate and roast, floral, earthy, and piney hops to add some balance.

22oz bomber pours with a clear amber body supporting a tan colored head of foam. The modest aroma is a little roasty, a little nutty as well as delivering some pine hoppiness. The taste is very nice as I get a pleasing mix of mildly roasted malts, a touch of nutty malts and then pine hops backed up by a dark German rye bread like spiciness. To midway a thin ring of citrus hoppiness joins in and helps the experience get even more bitter with hops as the malts seem to get a little bit roastier. Tasty stuff indeed.
