Richie Imperial Porter is powerful and complex. Made with roasted barley and chocolate malts, it balances sharper flavors with a clean, semi-sweet finish.

12 oz. bottle poured to my sampler glass at the 2015 Lakeshore Beverage Trade Show in Chicago, showing a black/brown hue, with a touch of ruby highlighting, fluffy, brownish tan head froth, and foamy spots of lacing. The nose was mellow, but even keeled roastiness, with soft, grainy maltiness, and cocoa notes. The taste was a balanced progression of the aroma, with just touches of sweetness & creaminess, adding moderate, roasted & earthy bitterness, with noticeable alcohol woven in, thus producing a nice drinkability for an 8% brew. Liked it!

Damn good porter, this has a great roasted maltiness and very nice mouthfeel. Just enough sweetness is left behind to balance the roast.

Bottle. Black with thin brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, a hint of coffee, and some metallic notes. Medium body, coffee, dark chocolate, malt sweetness, and a bitter finish. Nicely balanced and the alcohol is barely noticeable.

Nice dark pour with decent texture. Aroma smelled of a nice chocolate and fruity mix. Very pleasant taste, with decent carbonation and a nice kick to it. Very good strong beer and I look forward to this offering in the future.

Pours black with very thin brown head. Aroma is sweet malt with some cherry or plum. Taste is sweet with hints of roast. Thick palate is very pleasant, some hint of the alcohol. A good imperial porter!

This is another good one from the fine fellows at ale syndicate. There was a day--and not too long ago--where you could call a brew like this an imperial stout and get away w/ it but, hey, it tastes just as good calling it an imperial porter. Itís a lovely garnet brown color w/ a small but creamy looking head of fine white bubbles. They did a nice job w/ the roasted grain on this one, very chocolatey in the nose and Iíd believe they put cocoa powder in there if you told me. I am also getting something of a cereal-type pale malt character through the roasted grains, which is a nice subtle touch. It is creamy on the palate and sweet but not cloying as the sweetness is given just enough balance by a light, tart, almost fruity note. It finishes failrly cleanly w/ most of the bitterness seeming to come from roast and some lingering coffee-w/-sugar notes. I might make a small complaint that at 8% there are definitely some more flavorful stouts and porters out there but all the flavor here is good and well and subtly used so I canít say that ruins my day or anything. Try this if you are a fan of porters. You will like it.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home watching Bears week 15 terrible football. Appearance is pitch black, moderate consistency, nice tan head but dissipated rather quickly. Aroma is a nice complex mixture of dark chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla, and light smoke. Taste is like a not-too-sweet espresso chocolate cake. Really fantastic stuff, would definitely have this one again.
