COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
cask and bottle, regular
An intriguing juxtaposition of dark malt colours combined with the full citrus and floral aromas of a traditional IPA.
Or is it a Cascadian dark ale? Porter in colour with a tan head and medium body. Citrus hop aroma with a balance of slight roast and chocolate malts and a crisp dry finish.
Note: this beer may be referred to as simply "Black IPA"

Cask conditioned handpump Lyric London 13/05/13. A very very dark purple coloured beer with a whitish head. A tasty hoppy black beer with lots of coffee and some sweet malts. Hops are berry fruit domianted rather than your typical citrus. Quite complex but really too sweet and too much coffee for a BIPA. Probably divides opinion but I liked it.

500ml bottle. Pours black -brown with a reddish tinge and a foamy tan head leaving lots of lacing. Aroma is roasted malt and citrusy hop. Taste is roast malt, dark chocolate, coffee against fruity citrusy hoppiness and some lingering bitterness. Medium bodied, soft to medium carbonation, dry roast earthy bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Dark brown. Smells a bit gamey...taste is blandish, buttery and without any real substance. Just a lot of disappointing.

Med brown, bubbly head. Aroma toasty, with light woody hop notes. Taste is like hoppy brown ale, full of toast and c hop marmalade.

500ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Clear chestnut brown, so not black for a kick-off! Aromas of milk chocolate , piney hops, some lemon cake. Taste has a good balance of bitter and sweet, but edging closer to porter than IPA. Could be fuller-bodied, but good creamy texture. Overall, a very nice beer with a good bitter finish.

Bottle, Nina’s Edinburgh. Deep dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Roasted malt, dark fruit and hop in the nose. The flavour had notes of coffee, chocolate, malts and some decent hop bitterness.. A solid and drinkable offering.

Looks like a stout, very dark and with a frothy white head. Quite nice overall, an unusual taste at first but you get used to it.

500ml bottle bought at Nina’s Mini Market. Nice and clear rosewood coloured body. Firm, creamy, off-white head, lots of bubbles to it. Laces well. Malty nose added by moments of dark fruits. A taste character of dark grapefruits, dried fruits and mid-sweet malts. Smooth, slightly roasted bitter finish. Medium bodied. Likable (hotel room, Edinburgh 10.08.2013).
