3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask conditioned handpump Lyric London 13/05/13. A very very dark purple coloured beer with a whitish head. A tasty hoppy black beer with lots of coffee and some sweet malts. Hops are berry fruit domianted rather than your typical citrus. Quite complex but really too sweet and too much coffee for a BIPA. Probably divides opinion but I liked it.

[6521-20140710] Cask. Smoked wood plank aroma has a nice chocolate malt undertone. Hazy, dark cola body with a medium-lasting tan head. Bitter smoked wood grain flavour has a mild fruity aftertaste. Full body. Tasty, nice hoppy profile. (8/3/8/3/16) 3.8

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
500 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown, almost black colour with a minimal white head. Aroma of roastiness, leather, licorice and some chocolate. Flavour of roastiness, burnt bread, salt, licorice, some earth and bitterness. Medium bodied. Nice roasty and lingering bitter finish. Considering the ABV this is excellent.

500ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, mahogany colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, beige head. Roasty dark malty aroma with coffee notes, a touch of toffee, slightly citrusy hoppy overtones, hints of lemon and orange zest. Taste is roasty dark malty, hints of burnt coffee, citrusy hoppy overtones with a dry touch of orange zest; a grassy hop note as well; lasting bitter finish. Neither overly rich nor strong - easy drinkable beginner’s Black IPA.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask pint at Cloisters, Edinburgh on 24th Oct 2014. Pours a dark brown, might even be black (not a lot of light where I was standing), on top a lightly tanned head. Mixed bag of an aroma with citrus notes tempered by chocolate and sweeter caramel maltiness. The taste was similar but not as sweet as the nose suggested, hints of liquorice and dark chocolate towards the end of each sip, and in the aftertaste. Nice.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Jacks, Westholme Stores, Goring-on-Thames, Oxon. Consumed at home Sunday 26th October 2014. Very dark brown verging towards (but not quite) black in colour.Creamy tan/light beige head that soon turns to a smaller filmy head. I get fed up of writing citrussy but it is, a little roasty, in fact really quite roasty there is a very light coffee edge. Very good. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

50cl Bottle, tfs R&J! Almost black colour, beige head. Aroma is faint, some coffee & cream, caramel/toffee, light hoppy. Flavour is likewise, more a hopped dry stout with some caramel added. Light-bodied. Smooth and tasty though.
