Originally called “Cairnpapple”, this classic Alechemy recipe has been renamed “Ritual”. Ritual is a well-balanced light coloured refreshing IPA with a floral aroma leading to a lingering citrus taste.

bottle from oddbins. so that’s what’s become of the cairnpapple. fairly light, lots of biscuit, malt, grapefruit. there’s nothing not to like here, clearly i’ve become spoiled by choice that I can find this so pedestrian.

[Bottled, at the Great British Beer Festival, 2015 - Tutored tasting with Roger Protz] - Alechemy Ritual Pale Ale 4.1%, Vanilla, mild wood, malts on the nose. Light body, watery. Sweetish malty opening, with vanilla, apricots. Not much else later. Bitter finish, hoppy, with a forgettable mildly sweetish aftertaste. No.

500ml bottle Aldi. Surprisingly potent aroma for a 4.1% beer and a surprisingly strong flavour. Sweet and bitter at the same time. Piny bitterness mixed with Scottish tablet. Decent beer, full flavoured for the ABV.

500ml bottle from Aldi supermarket, drank at home:
I had initially feared it was going to be far to sweet when I opened the bottle but it turned out to be quite an enjoyable & well balanced, going down easily. Yes, the sweetness could have been toned down just a little but it didn’t manage to spoil the beer for me thankfully.

500ml bottle. Clear, yellow-ish golden colour with average, thick, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Biscuity malty aroma, citrusy hoppy overtones, mild gooseberry notes. Taste is minimally sweet malty, biscuity, dry hoppy overtones, a citrusy touch, gooseberry notes. Light, rather cautious flavours, almost a bit anaemic.

Bottle from Aldi. Pours a deep gold. No real head after pouring. Not enough in the aroma. Grassy caramel. Very light lemon. Good carbonation. Decent mouthfeel. Semi-sweet in taste. Little citrus bite. Quite dry on the finish. Needs more flavour from the hops. Ok...ish.

Pint on cask at The Old Chain Pier, Newhaven, Edinburgh; Looking out to sea on a sunny afternoon. Light golden with a perfect creamy head. Grassy fresh hoppy aroma. Citrus, decent maltiness with ample bitterness and a wee tad more. A nice IPA
