28th September 2007. Dark brown ale with some moderate carbonation. Very sweet complex start, fruit and caramel contrasts with a bitterish finish. Malty, complex - remarkably succulent and moorish.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 chriso (7063) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 16, 2008
Cask (gravity dispense), St Albans Beer Festival, September 2007. Mid copper colour. Bags of resinous hop character on the nose. Orange marmalade and pine in the flavour, but with plenty of firm malt backing. Nicely balanced and very tasty. Mouthfeel is perhaps a little hot, which is not surprising in a beer of this strength.. Overall, and excellent US style barley wine.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 reakt (946) - Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 24, 2007
Cask @ St. Albans BF. Amber with a thin off white head. Grassy hop aroma with a bit of orangey malt. Taste is much the same, a full on bitter hop assault with some sweet honey notes. As mentioned below, more like an double IPA but still damn good.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 2, 2007
A Mes rate:
Gravicask at St. Albans Beer Festival. Dark golden brown with a reasonably tenacious bubbly white head. Heavy, sharp grassy hop aroma with slight alcohol and barley and some nice citric notes. Sweetish, tarty flavour, very hoppy with a huge bitter finish. Lovely srpucey notes. Good balance. Pleasing body. Complex and very tasty. Slight burn in the finish. Solid barley wine that is a little more like a British double IPA. Yum.
