UPDATED: JUN 15, 2008 Handpulled cask at the Wenlock Arms. This was a supposedly a special "one off brew" mild for a drinking group that I belong to, going by the name of "The Weekly Wind-up". Our favourite tipple is mild and as we tend to turn up at pubs somewhat mob handed, we always arrange for extra supplies of our favourite ales to be available. The Wenlock usually gets in at least two nines of mild for our visits, but on this occaision gave us a nice surprise by arranging for a special brew in our name! Unfortunately, special, it certainly was not! Black as tar with a beige head. It was was anything but mild in flavour. Offencivley bitter from the start, not from hops but from a huge overdose of caramel. There must have been enough burnt sugar added to this beer to darken ten barrels of ordinary mild! One of the most unpleasant beers I’ve ever tried. Not the pub’s fault. This was a IMO a crude brewery mix /rebadge by Alehouse. Fortunately, the Wenlock had plenty of quality beers on that night for us to wash away the unpleasent taste and we will look forward to drinking propper milds on our next visit.

cask at wenlock arms, hackney. Aroma of malt, roasted, and wood. Pours a deep very dark orange beer. Sweet, hopped taste. Somewhat ott. Ok.

Cask at the Wenlock Arms. Dark black color with tannish bubbles. Medium body with light carbonation. Starts like a light stout with citrus hop. Interesting and unusual. Aroma seems a bit citric.
