COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jim Moorehouse, Nate Albrecht and Brad Zeller, three pals planning to open a Chicago brewpub under the moniker of Aleman, won first place at last yearís Iron Brew homebrewing competition in the Windy City (judged by none other than Greg Koch, Jason Ebel of Two Brothers Brewing, and celebrated Chicago brewer, designer and author Randy Mosher). Their style-bending IPA artfully married the assertive tropical bite of Citra hops with amazing coffee flavor and aromatics to create something truly unique and exceptional. Serendipitously, Two Brothers recently kicked off a new adventure roasting their own coffee beans, and provided just-in-time freshly roasted java for the brew. The result is an innovative IPA thatís well balanced and intensely flavored thanks to the felicitous blend of hops and fresh roasted coffee.

On tap at Malt and Vine, Tasting notes from 3/21/13 poured into 4 oz. Snifter sample glass pours a light orange color with a light tan head that leaves good lacing. Smells of coffee, citrus, and pine. Tastes of coffee and citrus with a slight hop bite in the back end. Mouthfeel was smooth and creamy with great carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall I think this was a great tasting and unique brew. I thought the coffee flavor overpowered the ipa elements slightly though. Wish I could have found a bottle but they sold out before I could find one. At least I got to try it on tap during a Stone tasting though.

Has an instant coffee taste that is alright but nothing special. A drinkable beer but is missing something.

Bomber from Samís, Durham. Having been pleasantly surprised by my first coffee IPA (the Mikkeller), I was hoping for good things here. Fairly lively copper pour with a fluffy head. Nose is leafy one moment, bright the next, with the coffee pretty muted at first. Flavors are richer and fuller, with moderate chocolate and wood framing the slightly more assertive coffee flavors. Citrus in there but a bit buried, and something overall came across as a bit thin and artificial. It was decent but a disappointment somehow.

Drank at jimmy buffet at va beach. Clear golden pour with fair offwhite head. Smells and tastes much better than I expected. Coffee aroma and flavor are prevalent, but noy overpoweribg for yhe base sryle. Pretty tasty, but not something I feel the need to drink again.

Bottle. Very pretty dark gold pour with thin white head. Interesting aroma of cold brewed coffee, quite hoppy, much more than the few other coffee IPAs Iíve tried, coffee notes are vegetal, but quite roasty as well, not like raw coffee. Flavor of coffee, nice hoppy finish, quite fruity without being sweet. Med-full palate with med carbonation, dry finish. Tasty.

Bottle. This is a beer designed with me in mind. I've loved the coffee stouts and porters I've had in the past, but was very curious about how coffee would work in an IPA. Verdict: Better than I could have ever imagined. I will be horribly disappointed if this actually ends up being a one-off and doesn't end up getting long term distribution.

It poured a clear copper color with a thin off-white head. The aroma was of fresh coffee, piney west coast hops, some grapefruit and then coffee again. The taste was similar with a nicely bitter finish. Not over the top, but very well done.

From bottle into tulip glass. Aroma is strong on the coffee. Color is an amber-orange with a minimal white head. Taste is coffee and hoppy upfront but smoothly finishes with coffee as well. Average carbonation with a clean finish.

Golden orange with a small pale head. Aroma is coffee, passionfruit, citrus. Medium bodied, quite sweet for an IPA, slightly bitter coffee finish. Taste is coffee, orange, passionfruit, honey. Quite nice.
