COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Jim Moorehouse, Nate Albrecht and Brad Zeller, three pals planning to open a Chicago brewpub under the moniker of Aleman, won first place at last yearís Iron Brew homebrewing competition in the Windy City (judged by none other than Greg Koch, Jason Ebel of Two Brothers Brewing, and celebrated Chicago brewer, designer and author Randy Mosher). Their style-bending IPA artfully married the assertive tropical bite of Citra hops with amazing coffee flavor and aromatics to create something truly unique and exceptional. Serendipitously, Two Brothers recently kicked off a new adventure roasting their own coffee beans, and provided just-in-time freshly roasted java for the brew. The result is an innovative IPA thatís well balanced and intensely flavored thanks to the felicitous blend of hops and fresh roasted coffee.

From bottle into tulip glass. Aroma is strong on the coffee. Color is an amber-orange with a minimal white head. Taste is coffee and hoppy upfront but smoothly finishes with coffee as well. Average carbonation with a clean finish.

"I should just stop ever doubting Stone ever ever again. Those that think theyíve slipped have obviously not had the privelage of trying their limited releases, collabs and one offs. Every time another brewer seems to gain ground, Stone releases yet ANOTHER awesome beer. This is one. Iíve had Mikkeller coffee IPA and it was enjoyable, but not like this. Classed as an IPA despite itís 8.7%, this drinks quite light and smooth for the abv. The aroma is dominated by coffee (think Surly Coffee Bender type coffee) with the lower IBU IPA rounding the aroma and flavor out with a subtle but refreshing blast of citrus. Coffee lovers should rejoice in this beer. It stood toe to toe with some big boys (Breakfast stout and Victory at Sea) as we transitioned from IPAs to darker coffee brews). Get it while itís fresh if you can..."

Coffee hops, sweet malt aroma, the hops and coffee complement each other quite well. Great mouthfeel, starts off like a typical stone IPA meets immediately with sweet bready malt and finishes with a great coffee flavor. Not at all what I was expecting. Wish I had another bottle or 12. It doesn't taste like coffee. Just the aroma and finishing taste. Not acidic. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Starts off with an unusual vegetal, green coffee bean aroma (which is nothing like a roasted coffee bean). Hazy orange/amber with a thin light tan heas. When a beer has coffee in the name, you generally expect a dark roasted coffee flavor. But here the coffee is like a medium roasted Columbian or something. The vegetal aroma follows into the taste with earthy bitterness which I’m guessing is a combination of the coffee and the hops. That vegetality really sticks to the tongue and while it’s interesting and unique, it gets to be a bit overwhelming after awhile. The caramel malt flavor in the background is just barely ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle... Clear amber ale with a small, creamy, white head. Decent retention. The coffee component of the aroma is subtle, but nice, and works quite well with this beerís hop bill. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and busy carbonation. The flavor is an enjoyable, roasty blend of coffee and hops. They meld nicely and fade slowly in the finish. Great balance - not overly bitter. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

[5259-20130426] Tap. Spiced coffee grains aroma. Clear, bright orange red body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Bitter malty hops flavour has a long coffee roast finish. Medium-full body. Aptly named, nice balance of hops and coffee but the roastiness throws it in a third direction. (7/4/8/4/16) 3.9

This beer blew my mind! I love a good IPA and coffee stouts are right in my wheel house but it never fathomed a coffee IPA that would actually taste good. I will search the rest of my life to find another!

Gift from SJ. I like out of the box thinking and this brew does just that. Nice citra hop and.....Coffee? Some how it just works. Nice flavor of roasted malt blened with the citra, and rather well. Nicely done.

P: Beautifully crystal clear vivacious pale copper body adorned with a dollop of khaki micro bubbles. A garter of sexy lace wraps the top of the glass. S: Holly cow! Robust fresh roasted coffee beans swimming in a pool of zesty citrus hops. T/M: Taste delivers the same as the nose with espresso beans and citrus hops. Tannins, whispers of bitter chocolate and toasted toffee. Vivacious carbonation dances no the palate creating a mellow creamy body. Finish is dry with citrus and ground espresso beans lingering long into the night. O: This is a masterpiece that wows the taste buds and leaves you wanting more. I have had so called coffee IPAís before but this is actually hugely successful. Simple and straight forward flavors that are perfectly married. This is one of my favorite IPAís to date. Hats off to Aleman, Stone and Two Brothers for a champion brew. Cheers!

The vegetal aroma follows into the taste with earthy bitterness which Iím guessing is a combination of the coffee and the hops. That vegetality really sticks to the tongue and while itís interesting and unique, it gets to be a bit overwhelming after awhile. The caramel malt flavor in the background is just barely enough to keep this together and a bit more sweetness might have benefited this. Finishes with a lasting earthy, vegetable bitterness. I held on to this for awhile so Iím wondering if some of the fresh tastes might have become a bit stale over time. Iíd definitely like to try this again fresh to find out.
