tjthresh (1749), Greenfield, Indiana, USA May 4, 2009 Growler from Smokepot23. Pours dark red boardering on brown with a fading tan head. The nose if very estery with berries and biscuit malts. The flavor is full of fruit as well. Herbal and earthy hops. Very malty. Medium body and very quaffable. Well worth trading for. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Apr 11, 2009 Big thanks to Smokepot23 for this growler. Crushed with Jakebra, Michaelangelo, and CorneliustheJuiceMan. Just an incredibly smooth beer. No complaints. Has flavor, body, awesomeness. Dug it. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Mar 22, 2009 On tap at Alesmith. Much lighter in the nose than the regular Anvil. A clear, sharpness that I didn’y find the the original version. Clear finishing in the palate. Not the same sweet thickness as the original. It’s amazing what yeast’ll do for a brew. BMan1113VR (2758), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Mar 14, 2009 At the BA Decadence release, on tap. Pours with a hazy brown body and a small, light brown head. Aroma of grain, brown sugar, biscuit and British yeast. Taste is sweet with grain, caramel, light roast and a bit of bitterness in the finish. Light carbonation. Odeed (1666), Bakersfield, California, USA Mar 14, 2009 (released on ba decadence day.)brown body with a creamy light brown head.very malty aroma and flavor.followed up by some biscuits and spices. stefanje (937), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA Mar 14, 2009 On tap at the BA Decadence release. The biggest surprise of the day, finding a new brew available for our tasting consideration. A big thanks to Peter and crew for coming up with this. Pours an amber-brown color with a small beige head. The aroma is sweet with roasted grains and honey biscuit. The taste is big with varying bread flavors; rye, biscuit and wheat, with just a touch of biter character. Finish is short and sweet. The mouthfeel is smooth and full. Overall: A well done biter. badlizard (2326), Berkeley, California, USA Mar 13, 2009 Tasted at the brewery release. Not as tangy as the regular Anvil and much smoother all around. Bread and toffee tastes dominate with a creamy palate and earthy caramel notes replace the fruit tastes in the regular version of Anvil. Damn good. WeeHeavySD (2942), San Diego (Hillcrest), California, USA Mar 13, 2009 Tap at Alesmith during the BA decadence release. I’ve seen it around on cask too, didn’t know how different it would be until I tasted it. Tasted in proximity to JohnC and others. Pour reddish with a tan head. Nose is sweet and rich, with a nice malty kick. Taste is clearly different, if I had a doubt about this beer being different from the original ESB those are completely stricken. Taste is sweet and rich with a nice mlat kick, very smooth and totally interesting.
