yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark Sep 7, 2008 22 fl oz bottle. Pours clear and golden orange with a collapsing light tan head. Mild lemonish to citrusy aroma with a mild sweet touch. Light spiced and towards light liqourice note. Mild fruity hoppy and a mild sweetness coming through. Bitter and slight acidic finish. Nice and refreshing. KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 7, 2008 Clear deep amber with reddish glimts and large beige fluffy head. Sweet fruity aroma with spicy and mild caramel notes. Sweet flavour with floral hops, caramel and fruits. Ends bitter. BelgianBeerGal (1276), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 6, 2008 Poured from 75cl bottle at Alesmith dinner. Wow! ESB can taste this nice? Clear bronze colour with a short, stout off-white head. Very caramelly aroma with a little dark sugar. Very drinkable and a nice flavour of malt and dark fruits. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Aug 27, 2008 On tap @ Liars Club. Ruddy amber color with a creamy off-white head. Light fruity malt profile, mild English hop background. Nice rich plum-like malts, toasted grain, rich finish. Quality ESB. eli723 (10), San Diego, California, USA Aug 21, 2008 Updated: Sep 9, 2008Nothing special about this one. A good example of an ESB though. I’d get it again - it’s a very easy drinking beer. GAManiac (1123), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 19, 2008
Pours clear amber with a hint of red with a small off-white head that dissipates quickly to a ring with little lacing. The smell has citrus hops up front with a bready malt background and some fruity sweetness in there as well. The taste really caught me off guard with an immediate tongue-tingling bitterness that actually has a noticeable lemon tartness to it. There is a strong spiciness toward the finish as well with only a hint of the bread behiind the massive bitter kick. The mouthfeel is crisp and clean with a strong carbonation that accentuates the tartness. The drinkability is limited a little by the bitterness, but this is a good bitter and a very unique offering from AleSmith. shadowaeb (11), , California, USA Aug 8, 2008 Pours a nice ruby/burgundy color, with a white-ish head that recedes fairly quickly. Aroma is somewhat hoppy, not as much as I would expect for an ESB, but certainly malty enough. Flavor is suprising: not so much straight bitterness but bitter and tart, a very stimulating combination of resin and citrus. Malty, smooth body, and a refreshing though slightly sweet finish. timfoolery (482), California, USA Aug 7, 2008 Bottle from Liquor Barn in Redding, CA. This was my first experience of the ESB, and I’m sure to be biased toward others as Alesmith always makes a quality brew. It had citrus scents to it, but the limited, bitter hops were balanced nicely with a huge malt backing. Great brew!
