jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Feb 9, 2008 22oz bottle-pours a big foamy to rocky light tan head and copper color. Aroma is sweet pine/slight metallic hops, secondary medium malt-caramel. Taste is slightly sweet pine/slight metallic hops, secondary medium malt-caramel/husky (specialty malt-English?), clean. Medium body. OK/mild carbonation. Thanks to Stevo for sharing. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Feb 4, 2008 btl. Deep copper with hints of amber with light tan head. A bit of a roasty malt & semi sweet aroma and a bit of brown sugar. Full bodied semi sweet maltiness with a very good pleasant full bitter. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Not bad at all for an ESB. I like most everything about it. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 26, 2008 Poured from bomber into pint glass.
Amber body with a 2 finger fizzy head. No lace, decent retention.
Smell is of caramel, fresh floral hops
Taste is disappointing. Starts off solid with a nice caramel maltiness and a clean hop finish but within a few minutes starts to taste very watery. Notes of menthol, lactic acidity, honey, mineral water.
Mouthfeel is just ok, far too much carbonation. Don’t drink this if you don’t like to belch. Body is thin, watery. Almost cola-like.
This isn’t so bad if you keep it very cold. Not what I was expecting from a giant like AleSmith. tangentrider (144), USA Jan 25, 2008 coppery brown ale with a tan head. caramel, slightly hoppy aroma. flavor is balance of malt and hop, but is a bit watery than I expected. finish is hop with a bit of sweet. masonjer (562), Holt, Michigan, USA Jan 22, 2008 Poured a copper color into the glass. I am not a big fan of ESB’s so I figured if anybody could make a good one it would be alesmith. Taste was distant caramel hints with english hops and light fruit. Finishes very clean. This would be great with a meal. they did a good job with this, I still don’t care for ESB’s, but this was the best one I have had. thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Jan 21, 2008 Bottle. Pours a reddish/copper color with a generous off-white head. Aroma is heavy roasted malt with some hops noticeable as well. The taste is a wonderful sweet malt balanced beautifully by fruity hops at the end. This is easily my favorite American-made English ale, and I wish I lived out West so I could have AleSmith more regularly. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Jan 19, 2008 Bottle from FlacoAlto. The last remaining normal Alesmith beer I’d not yet ratedPale herbal aroma, celery and a gritty malt. Bitter hops in the flavor with a vegetal note that is right on style. Light sweetness and a touch of earthiness. Hops seem more American than British, and there is a fairly high bitterness that is not expected. An American style ESB, perhaps. Taverner (827), San Ramon, California, USA Jan 18, 2008 Copper pour - very sour. I don’t think it’s the beer - I think it’s supposed to be that way. It’s not bad, the aroma is really good and the beer has a decent body. The sourness puts me off - but that’s just me. ON SECOND EXAMINATION: I had this with Vietnamese food and it compliments the food PERFECTLY. Try it sometime - this beer, and some nice and spicy lemongrass chicken.
