Commercial Description:
Bright copper color, sparkling clarity, and good foam retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Deep toasty/caramelly malt balanced by spicy/fruity hop flavors accented by fruit esters resulting from fermentation with a championship yeast strain. The aroma is subtle and reflects the flavor with malt, hop and fruit (ester)/fermentation characteristics. Smooth, medium-bodied. Easy drinking with no harsh or astringent sensations.

Served on tap at AleSmith. Appearance is copper with a good amount of bubbles. The aroma and flavors are English style toasted malt with some caramel and nut notes.

Amber color with large white head. Aroma is strong and lingers nicely in the nostrils with caramel/apple balanced well against the malt/hops. Very smooth on the first few sips with fruity tones in the finish and a slight bitter aftertaste.

Sampled at Lithy’s Septemberfest Tasting. Clear dark amber with massive, fading off white head. Nose of apple juice. Flavor is a tart earthy sourness. This must be old as hell. Will have to try again fresh.

Pours a clear orange-amber with a thick two finger tan head, minor lacing. Aroma is grass, citrus and caramel. Flavor is a good balance, leaning a bit more to the malts, very smooth and drinkable

cloudy brown body with no head, sweet malt aroma with some mild roast, flavor is mostly sweet malts, there are some very mild hop flavors that are difficult to specifically pick out, what hops are there lightly spicy and noble in character, a very dry chalky roast finish, mild nut, hints of pine needles, light and refreshing and surprisingly complex flavors for a bitter, This is a good example, I’m surprised it’s not more bitter than it is, but I’m glad to taste that AleSmith respects the ESB style.

The deep hazy chestnut brown head with luscious frothy and foamy head looks absolutely beautiful- but afterwards makes me think that something has gone awry. Totally soured to taste and smell. This bottle has been contaminated. Unfortunately due to a blind taste test I didn’t know and thought it was some kind of weird sour ale or something but it was pretty gross considering what it was supposed to be. I unfortunately consumed it all, and upon realizing- the notes I had seemed quite irrelevant. It really looked pretty though. Will have to re-rate soon

Bottle: Drank with rcasta while bottling the Wheat batch and brewing the Bitter. Malty flavors with slight bitterness, smooth. Food Pairing: Smoked Sausage.
