Commercial Description:
Bright copper color, sparkling clarity, and good foam retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Deep toasty/caramelly malt balanced by spicy/fruity hop flavors accented by fruit esters resulting from fermentation with a championship yeast strain. The aroma is subtle and reflects the flavor with malt, hop and fruit (ester)/fermentation characteristics. Smooth, medium-bodied. Easy drinking with no harsh or astringent sensations.

Bomber from Holiday Wine, bought by a good friend of mine that needs to join this site. Pours a hazy amber, and absolutely no head at all! I mean zero head. Sorry Peter. I must have received an off bottle. Mild aroma of caramel, toffee, crystal malt. Light mouthfeel and soft carbonation, but not watery tasting at all. Nice british malt flavor characteristics, toffee, caramel, with a touch of fruitiness. The bitterness is offset by the sweetness on the finish that it goes does smooth. Even though I have an American palate, I have a great appreciation for british bitters. Many brewers don’t capture the essence of them well, especially in the bottle. This gave me flashbacks of my trips to England. The only flaw in my sample was that there was no head. I’d love to get another bottle or try this on cask.

This has a deep copper body, but even an aggressive pour could raise only the slenderest beige head. It smells of caramel and toffee and butterscotch with fresh apple juice. A bit thin. The flavor is mainly caramel with a touch of apple, a mild earthy bitterness kicking in at the finish. Okay.

Bottle from Bevmo, Valencia; Nose of a little hops and some caramel malts; copper color with a small beige head; flavor with some spice, caramel, a little citrus, and hoppy bitterness for the finish.

Cask at brewery - Pours clear amber with a big, billowy head that leaves good lacing. It has a nice hoppy aroma with some slight spice undertones. The flavor has some caramel malts and a fine quality hops kick. Cask carbonation is light and smooth. There’s a nice balance to this ESB. It didn’t blow me away, but it’s quite good.

On tap. Clear light amber coloured with a small head. Malty and sweet. Slightly hoppy and slightly spicy. Hints of soap and butter.

via trade with cbkschubert, thanks Craig. Very disappointing. Zero head. I repeat zero head with almost no carbonation. Very bland taste. Nothinging happening here, which sucks ass cause I was really in a mood for a good ESB. Nothing special about this and not bitter enough.

On Cask @ Brewery: This is one of those beers that you could drink day in, day out. Other than Ballast Point Calico, this is my favorite ESB to date. Good stuff.

On Cask at Alesmith for the release of 2004 Barrel Aged Numbskull. The beer poured dark amber with a big fluffy head. Although I’ve had in tap and on bottle before it was extra special on cask and really tasted nice with a good hoppy bitter bite.
