mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 11, 2005 bottle. hazy orange-copper with a small white top. aroma is quite yeasty with orange hops, biscuit, and toast. I enjoy this style when it’s done right, it’s so easy to drink. flavourful chewy hops and caramel malt. soft balance. a very good session ale. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Dec 10, 2005 Bottle (650ml). Shared with R, blankboy, GregClow, DougShoemaker, and mds, courtesy of GregClow. Poured hazy amber with a small white head. Aroma of tea, mild hops, dried flowers, decent malt backbone - doesn’t jump out at you but it’s light and appealing. Taste also a mellow balance of malt and hops - this could be the perfect session beer. Juicy and creamy mouthfeel, average body, quick balanced finish. Very nice - another great AleSmith, and a terrific example of an american ESB. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 8, 2005 22 oz bottle, via trade with Fordest. Pours a clear copper with a small off-white head. Lightly malty nose with plenty of floral hops. Sweet and lightly fruity as well. Flavor is nicely balanced with a light malt base and light bitter hoppiness. Mouthfeel is the highlight of this beer for me. Lighter bodied with perfect bottle conditioned soft carbonation. As good as the flavor is, the mouthfeel certainly outshines it. Overall just a really good session beer (flavor wise, not ABV wise at 5.5%). If this were available to me locally it would be a staple in my beer diet. IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Dec 5, 2005 Poured an effervescent amber with a semi-creamy off-white head. Aroma of crisp grapefruit bitter hops and sweet caramel. Flavor is mild grapefruit hops, honey, caramel and orange. Very clean, slightly sweet finish. Slick, creamy body. Extremely balanced and easy-drinking. Excellent. LePoopie (151), Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, USA Nov 22, 2005 It has a nice, roasty aroma to it. It has a good, amber-brown appearance, with little head, with a medium bitter flavor that is appealing. It has a nice, full body, with decent carbonation and texture. Overall, a pretty good beer. JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Nov 22, 2005 Slightly hazy coppery gold body. Pretty nice looking. Bubbly/soapy head with lingering lace. Light sugary fruit aroma. Stale honey component in there too. Light hop character... a bit of grapefruit. Aroma comes out a bit more as it warms (it started a little cold). Light hoppy taste. Some fruit and rye-like malt. Nice overall taste and overall beer. Would drink this often if I lived in San Diego. 1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Nov 22, 2005 Updated: Feb 27, 2006Pours to a deep caramel color that has some orange hues to it. There is a spotty lacing and an oil slick of a head. The aroma is citrusy toffee and earthen malts. Light grassiness and some fruit like esters. The flavor is a nice toffee with some light lemons. Nice toasty malts on the 5 second finish. The palate is pretty middle-of-the-road. Not huge in terms of being really unique, but it does taste pretty good and is easy to drink. Slick (1962), Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA Nov 19, 2005 Nice amber color, small but long lived off white head that managed to leave a decent lace behind. The aroma was malty and citrusy with maybe a hint of toffee or caramel in there as well as a slight bitter side coming through. The flavor was nicely malty with a good showing from the citrus and a bit of a mild bitterness in the end.Another nicely done brew from these guys and well worth having a few more around for later which is what i did.
