MIBRomeo (1962), Wisconsin, USA Oct 3, 2005 Thanks to Peter of AleSmith for opening and sharing a bottle at GABF
Dark golden amber color tall off white small bubbled head w/ great lacing. English smell light carmel light toffee very smooth. Smooth light creamy palate. Very smooth taste lightly bitter w/ a solid malt back. Everything about this beer was well balanced and smooth.. a perfect session beer. piscator34 (1121), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Sep 29, 2005 Orange/amber in colour with a slightly lower than average carbonation level. Aromas are quite fruity from both the yeast and the fruity-floral English (maybe Goldings) hops. Theres a good balance between the caramel malt and hop flavors, and some additional mineral and yeast notes too. The mouth feel is quite unusual: very smooth and rounded... almost salty, but not overly heavy. It was great with steak. trokini (1027), San Diego, California, USA Sep 28, 2005 Pours a darker copper with a frothy cream-colored head. Aroma of malts and yeast. Taste is a lighter ESB, with a pleasant bitterness. Stong malt and yeast make for a crisp bite with an easy aftertaste. Doubles as a great marinade for streaks. Schultsc (478), Henderson, Nevada, USA Sep 24, 2005 Updated: Sep 11, 2008Reddish-bronze with a fine head and light carbonation. Great, precise malt/grain characteristics blend seamlessly with fruity Burton yeast notes and crisp, even bitterness. A grand achievement in a seemingly simple ESB. Few beers of this style posess the clear, claculated flavors and overall freshness found here. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Sep 13, 2005 Still not an ESB fan. This is better than most right up there with Rogue Brutal Bitter, but still not an ESB fan. Clear copper pour with almost no head. Aromas were malty with some toffee notes. Flavors were dryer with a bit of hops finish, bu mostly caramel malts. Acceptable beer whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 3, 2005 Clear copper body with a fading, off-white head. Notes of caramel and toast with a hint of fruit in the nose. Flavor is fresh with nice hop-malt balance, good bitterness, and some light, cleansing acidity. A standard, solid American ESB. Thanks DarkElf. Bockyhorsey (2487), Mesa, Arizona, USA Aug 31, 2005 A mild sweet fruit aroma. Body looked amber to me but was at a dimly lit pub. Good head and above average lacing on glass. Detected mosly a fruit flavor and that for beer with bitter in the name beer was clean on the palate not overbitter. Refreshing brew. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA Aug 23, 2005 Bottle: Light copper color with very little head and light lacing. The nose is very perfumey with light floral hops and creamy malt notes. The flavor is balanced, a bit light but it blends well with the nose. A nice traditional ESB without any over bitterness.
