DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Apr 9, 2005 This was on draught at Liar’s Club under a different name. I’m sitting here eyeing up this beer, and the annoyingly large glass bottom which only allows me to have 14 ounces instead of 16 ounces, when there’s a 30 something woman trying to parallel park her Isuzu Rodeo in front of a minivan. I take a break from being pissed about the bullshit glass and help her safely park. She was most appreciative. The aroma of this beer is very floral and quite aromatic with hints of orange and caramel in the nose. Transparent copper color with amber notes and a nice off white head and gorgeous lacing. Floral hoppiness to start, which is quite subdued with a significant malty middle. Extremely tasty, smooth, and yummy. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Apr 3, 2005 Pours a deep orangey amber, decent head retention. Malty sweet aroma, with some strange spicy notes that were difficult to peg. Fairly light body with an exceptionally thin mouthfeel for an ESB, and indeed for AleSMith. That same strange spicy character returns in the finish. Not a super great ESB, defnintely has the AleSmith tendency to be so subtle and tricky in character as to become somewhat removed from a classic excellency in style. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 2, 2005 hazy amber, a few floaters, off white head. citrusy, leafy hop aroma with malt, cereal and orange. flavour starts sweet, then moves leafy and dryish and finishes orangy and hoppy. nicely balanced. very tasty. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Mar 27, 2005 Dark amber ale with a thin off-white head. Hoppy malts with alcohol and sugar notes in aroma, very faint. Light sweet sugar with barely any hops, surprising considering the origin. Dryish and light bodied ESB. Dissapointing. hopdog (5534), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 26, 2005 Poured a darker, cloudy amber color with a small (1/2 finger) off white head. Aromas of flowers and light caramel. Caramel stronger in the taste. Perfume the aroma and tastes as well. Malty finish. Smooth body. Very drinkable. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Mar 24, 2005 This brew was really nice on tap. A really heavy body first caught my attention, very thick on the palate. Very rich blend of toasted malts give this brew a nice depth of caramel , candy fruit, and honey flavor. Very balanced and very smooth. Crockett (904), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada Mar 22, 2005 Hazy orange amber with a pretty creamed head. Texture is very smooth. Very balanced. Sweet hopes. A little honey and green leaves. Some butterscotch. Pine resin. Great clean bitter. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 21, 2005 Floral, herbal, perfumey, earthy hop nose with some underlying malty caramel. Hazy brown with shy and thin cover of white head. Caramel malt flavour but well-attenuated and dry with some floral, earthy, perfumey hop flavour. Medium-light body with low to fair carbonation. Not one of the better beers I’ve had from this brewery but certainly a drinkable one even if I was hoping for better. Bottle sampled with Lubiere and Rastacouere.
