3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 atpayne (615) - Zionsville, Indiana, USA - MAY 3, 2005
Nice copper color with a creamy off white head. The aroma is a mix of malt and hop. Some sweet and slightly roasty malts and mild piney hop aromas. The flavor has a distinct creamy malt profile which is followed by a mild bitterness. Malt develops with some roasted character. The finish is light to medium bodied.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 tomhenderson (145) - Charlotte, North Carolina, USA - APR 17, 2005
22 oz bottle. Pours a pretty copper color with good (but not brilliant) clarity. Almost no head, which is typical of a good ESB. (See BJCP.org for style guildlines.) Rich in flavor, leaning more toward caramel malt, yet there’s a good balance of undetermined hoppiness. Overall, this is a superb ESB, just as I would expect from AleSmith.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 quimist (3) - California, USA - APR 14, 2005 does not count
Smooth, honey, well balanced, goes down smooth. Thought it would be more hoppy. Would make for a good everyday beer.

very similar to an ESB I homebrewed, makes me feel a little better about my own brew. light head and lacing, nice copper orange color, not bad.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 DYCSoccer17 (2780) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 9, 2005
This was on draught at Liar’s Club under a different name. I’m sitting here eyeing up this beer, and the annoyingly large glass bottom which only allows me to have 14 ounces instead of 16 ounces, when there’s a 30 something woman trying to parallel park her Isuzu Rodeo in front of a minivan. I take a break from being pissed about the bullshit glass and help her safely park. She was most appreciative. The aroma of this beer is very floral and quite aromatic with hints of orange and caramel in the nose. Transparent copper color with amber notes and a nice off white head and gorgeous lacing. Floral hoppiness to start, which is quite subdued with a significant malty middle. Extremely tasty, smooth, and yummy.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 FoolishMortal (980) - San Diego, California, USA - APR 3, 2005
Pours a deep orangey amber, decent head retention. Malty sweet aroma, with some strange spicy notes that were difficult to peg. Fairly light body with an exceptionally thin mouthfeel for an ESB, and indeed for AleSMith. That same strange spicy character returns in the finish. Not a super great ESB, defnintely has the AleSmith tendency to be so subtle and tricky in character as to become somewhat removed from a classic excellency in style.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mrkimchee (1414) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 2, 2005
hazy amber, a few floaters, off white head. citrusy, leafy hop aroma with malt, cereal and orange. flavour starts sweet, then moves leafy and dryish and finishes orangy and hoppy. nicely balanced. very tasty.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lubiere (6979) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 27, 2005
Dark amber ale with a thin off-white head. Hoppy malts with alcohol and sugar notes in aroma, very faint. Light sweet sugar with barely any hops, surprising considering the origin. Dryish and light bodied ESB. Dissapointing.
