Bottle shared with some friends. Dark brown color. Slightly over carbonated. Aroma is slightly roasty with hints of booze and caramel. Flavor is semi sweet and pretty easy to drink.

Caramel malt / fruity grass aroma. Caramel malts /toasted grains and ripe fruit taste. A mild dry bread finish. Interesting , but not life altering.

On tap at the tasting room. It pours dark reddish brown with a thin khaki head. The aroma is malty with toffee, cocoa, big raisin and plum with touches of molasses. The flavor is lighter and less potent than the aroma with lots of fruity raisiny malt, a touch of buttered toffee and finishes with very little hop presence. I enjoyed this one.

Poured into a pint glass. Got accepted to med school today, so time to celebrate!
3.0 A: Translucent amber brown color. Less than one finger of creamy dark beige head with below average retention but a good amount of lacing considering the original head size.
3.5 S: Grainy, and to a less extent bready, malts. Caramel, toasty, and maybe a bit nutty. Good, but lacking in strength.
3.5 T: Like the nose, the taste is a light as well. Caramel, toasty, and grainy malts are the strongest. Hops add a soft bitterness with an earthy herbal taste. Light general fruitiness.
3.5 M: Light body, perhaps too light. Good moderate carbonation. Could be creamier and a thicker body would help with that. Otherwise, okay.
3.5 D: A while ago I made the mistake of comparing every bitter to East End’s Bitter End (the 2nd running of Gratitude) and so very few have been able to meet the complexity and straight up great taste. This is no different. Anvil is a pedestrian attempt at a pedestrian style.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 quiznoaz (144) - Arizona, USA - FEB 9, 2011
Dark amber pour, with a hint of cloudiness and lots of bubbles, including large ones, rising from the bottom of the glass. What little head there was dissipated quickly. Good, full malty aroma, but not overpowering. The flavor has a low malty point and a high citrusy point, almost orange, with a large gap between. Large bubbles in the mouth take away from the mouthfeel. I like it.

Pours brown with a medium head. Malty and fruity on the nose. Taste of fruit, malt, and spicy hops. Very drinkable but I enjoyed the all English ingredients version better.
