AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Mar 3, 2009 22oz - GREAT take on the English style. Plenty of carbonation, malt and hoppy bitterness in the dark brown liquid. I really enjoyed this. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Mar 2, 2009 22 ounce bottle in pint glass. Amber with lasting head and lace. Mild toasted caramel fruity hop aroma. Mild toasted caramel with ripe fruit and clean finish. Pretty mild all around. Medium body and medium-high carbo with a little fizziness in the finish. A nice fresh well made beer that isn’t very interesting. Could be toastier/maltier with creamier mouthfeel. nickd717 (1276), Palo Alto, California, USA Feb 22, 2009 A good ESB but far from AleSmith’s best offering. Dark amber color with a nice off-white head. Aroma is floral hops and sweet malt. Flavor is well-balanced but not incredibly interesting. Caramel malt and a sour/bitter finish with some citrusy hops. Smooth palate, medium body. HonkeyBra (1279), Lemont, Illinois, USA Feb 20, 2009 Bomber from AlexsDad06, Thanks man! Amber pour with a huge, thick white head. Spicey, fruity aroma. Flavor is smooth, light hops and spiciness. Nice mouth feel. Fun to drink, thanks Brad! spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Feb 18, 2009 Pours clear dark amber with a one finger off white head. Fair amount of lacings. Aroma is fruity almost perfume like. Fruity taste with very mild amount of hop bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel perhaps a bit under carbonated. Since there is no date on this bottle that I can decipher and given the good reviews that most Alesmith products recieve, I can only assume this is an old bottle. Overall fairly sweet, fruity, and just a touch of hops.
popery (133), San Francisco, California, USA Feb 10, 2009 Good except for a sweet, medicinal off note. Caramel malt dominates the flavor. Hops are evident and chime in with floral-metallic-earthy aromas and flavors. More refined and British than any other San Diego area beer that I’ve tried. The bitterness is excellent, but the medicinal note just makes it difficult for me to enjoy the beer fully. I might try to grab a second bottle to see if I got an off example. BrotherGrendel (551), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Feb 9, 2009 A- Pours a clear copper/dark orange hue with a HUGE off-white rocky head that is mostly diminishing, fair lacing on the glass
S- Subtle hop aroma, citrus and earthy notes, caramel malt
T- Pretty well-balanced taste dominated by bitter hops throughout, subtle hints of malt and fruit in the background, short dry aftertaste
M- Light to medium body, watery texture, fizzy level of carbonation that is rather distracting
D- Rather easy to drink ESB, but the high level of carbonation (almost foamy in mouth) detracts from the overall taste. fidel (887), Livermore, California, USA Feb 4, 2009 Pours hazy golden amber, malty, caramel, bready, little nutty, slight citrus hop.
