Commercial Description:
Bright copper color, sparkling clarity, and good foam retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Deep toasty/caramelly malt balanced by spicy/fruity hop flavors accented by fruit esters resulting from fermentation with a championship yeast strain. The aroma is subtle and reflects the flavor with malt, hop and fruit (ester)/fermentation characteristics. Smooth, medium-bodied. Easy drinking with no harsh or astringent sensations.

I keep this beer around. I show it to friends, I foist it on houseguests, I consume it like butter. It’s almost like candy sometimes. Nonsense!

Pours a deep orangey amber, decent head retention. Malty sweet aroma, with some strange spicy notes that were difficult to peg. Fairly light body with an exceptionally thin mouthfeel for an ESB, and indeed for AleSMith. That same strange spicy character returns in the finish. Not a super great ESB, defnintely has the AleSmith tendency to be so subtle and tricky in character as to become somewhat removed from a classic excellency in style.

Looks a lot like iced tea. Small head lace. Light fruit aroma with some spicy hoppiness. Somewhat cirusy with a good malt backbone. Again it reminds me of iced tea with a lot of lemon.

650ml bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy deep mahogany brown with an ample off-white head that lasts a good long time and has plenty of lacing. Aroma is light to medium in strength and has notes of citrus, malts and hops. Flavor is understated with nuttiness, malts, and some spices(thyme and allspice perhaps). Hops were inadequate for an ESB, this beer is not even close to my expectation for that style. Mouthfeel was a bit thin. Finish was long and malty and satisfying. Overall this is the first Alesmith product that I have not been impressed with. I trust that they will refine and improve this offering in the future. My criticism not withstanding, a very drinkable and like-able beer.

Sampled on tap at Alesmith. Pours a transparent amber brown with a frothy, creamy white head. Malty, bready aroma with some mild piney citrus. Flavor is heavy on the malt, caramel, some sticky fruits with a grapefruit hop kick. Sessionable.

22oz bottle thanks to Fly. Reddish copper color, floral hop nose, very smooth going down with a juicy citrus hop taste that is not over the top, which is not what I had expected. Floral bitter finish.

bottle from foolish_mortal. looks like a bitter, with a light woody color and very clear. surprisingly fruity, with a lot of strawberry flavors as well. a little bit too fruity and acidic to be a perfect session beer, but definitely easy-to-drink. a good session beer anyway.

Wonderful ESB. Restrained hop bitterness backed up by a rounded sweet maltiness. This is a quality brew that I think Bud drinkers would actually enjoy immediately. It's one of those beers that tastes colder than it actually is (what causes that?), and it's crisp finish is incredibly thirst quenching...this is the ultimate session beer!
