COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bright copper color, sparkling clarity, and good foam retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Deep toasty/caramelly malt balanced by spicy/fruity hop flavors accented by fruit esters resulting from fermentation with a championship yeast strain. The aroma is subtle and reflects the flavor with malt, hop and fruit (ester)/fermentation characteristics. Smooth, medium-bodied. Easy drinking with no harsh or astringent sensations.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2009 An orangey perfume with sweet cookie malt crumbs...Bread dough pilgrims migrate to a plentiful baccate land...Very drinkable, but somewhat lacking in malt structure...

660ml bottle (Viisi Pennia, Helsinki)
nice mashy aroma, dryish, some english hops. pleasan body, a little crisp in the carbonation, but that makes it quite refvreshing despite the rweidual sweetness. Retronasals are a little fruity, this is coming over as pretty nice ale. Finish is a touch mushroomy, but quite mellowp, and convincingly English. Not perfect, but still a good approximation to the English style, one of the better US attempts.

somewhat bitter and not complex. But went well with various lunch dishes. Rather mild Malty and floral and understated fruitiness. Thanks Don for bringing back fresh from San Diego!

Bottle. Pours clear tawny with a large, frothy, light brown head, somewhat lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (toasted grain, hay, meal), average hop (herbs), average yeast (dough, leather) with notes of pear, apple, and a hint of sugar. Medium bodied, thin texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness and bitterness, light acidity.

Bottle courtesy of dirty_martini. Pours mahogany with a nice white head. Smells of citrus, roses, touches of caramel and hints of pepper. Tastes of sweet malt with some nice underlying spice, hints of citrus and a nice finish that yields some floral notes. An excellent beer.

Thanks to Foolish Mortal for this one. Pours hazy deep copper/ruby with minimal head. The aroma is caramel malty, with some brown sugar and subdued hops and fruit. The palate is complex and well balanced, but the whole thing left me somewhat uninspired. This beer caused me to conclude that my upper limit for this style is probably around 3.8 or so. If Alesmith can’t get this style above 3.6, then no one can.

Brown body with reddish reflects. Dull short-lasting off-white head. Fairly typical nose, an average blend of malt and hops. Slightly floral and stale goldings while the malts come out earthy, rather husky and almost grainy. Pretty dry on the tongue, almost sandy. Feels oxidized to me, husky malts and orangey hops providing a toothpaste reminiscent grassy/minty/soapy hop profile. Dull palate, light-medium body, lightly oily. Huh.. Where’s the rich Alesmith malt?

Bomber poured a clear amber with a lasting amber head. Aromas of carmel, toffee, a hint of orange and some earthiness. Palate was medium bodied and very smooth. Flavors of carmel, light cocoa, some citrus notes and toffee with a smooth moderatly bitter finish.

Tasting at Brewtopia festival. Amber/copper pour wtih a fluffy head. Some good lacing with this one. Aroma is malty with hints of caramel leading way to some floral hops. Flavorwise this was one of my least favorite Alesmith productions to date...but it is still pretty good. Flavor has some caramel, toffe, and floral hops.

Bottle, again thanks to Jon!! Poured a beautiful deep caramelly-toasted plum with a short, very well-placed off-white head and sticky lacing.. just what I was looking for! The aroma picked up sweet floral notes, soft caramel, and a touch of toasty fruits.. really, really nice!! Flavor had light toasty caramel at the core with some biscuit and toffee notes.. mild, but well-represented dried toasty floral and perhaps grassy notes.. just a perfect balance. About medium-bodied with a terrific balance!.. sweet citrus and floral at the finish with a sweet kick. This was quite good!
