COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bright copper color, sparkling clarity, and good foam retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Deep toasty/caramelly malt balanced by spicy/fruity hop flavors accented by fruit esters resulting from fermentation with a championship yeast strain. The aroma is subtle and reflects the flavor with malt, hop and fruit (ester)/fermentation characteristics. Smooth, medium-bodied. Easy drinking with no harsh or astringent sensations.

Poured from an Alesmith growler, this had a nice deep amber color with a minimal white head. Malty aroma with some caramel notes. Flavor has notes of roasted malt, caramel, and some fruit. Very sublte hop aftertaste but is overall too sweet for my taste. Medium body and smooth, a good session beer nonetheless.

Pours with a nice head that doesn’t hang around too long (but which made the first sip extra tasty). Smells of toffee, caramel, slightly bready with a little touch of floral hops. Taste is perfect. All of the above-mentioned aromas pass as flavors over your tongue with a fleeting bitter finish. In between dry and full finishes. The carbonation is not tight but still helps the flavors pop off your tongue while the "wetness" of it still coats the mouth. Excellent beer.

Not much head, but nice, prolonged soapy lacing. Bottle pour. Conditioned in the bomber. But if you pour a settled bottle, the pour is crystal clear, albeit not copper or amber colored, but a dark red. Cocoa and raisins in the nose, maybe some coffee behind that, all malt. I am tempted to make a bold statement that AleSmith is the best brewery ever. Even though I don’t care for their Speedway, I can appreciate that every brew they produce is done with a lot of thought and precision. Each aroma nuance is a revelation, and then you get some surprising aftertaste, or a sneak of banana or date or peach...these guys know not only what they are doing, but how to twiddle and tweek already established styles. This ESB is not like British ESBs, although on the label they would want you to think it is a tribute to said style. Tthe malt characteristics are so rich, the chocolate and even mocha tones...thats not in a Fuller’s or any Brit ESB. There is a distinct lack of over-hopping, which some might argue is an irritatingly obvious trait in other styles of SD beer (I won’t argue that point even with a gun to my head, but I’ve heard it), but at the same time, one has to wonder why a brewery in the heart of over-hopped IPA-land is putting out an ESB that is all malt with only the most subtle of hop bits mixed in.. All I know is that this is one fine brew...maltier and roastier than you should expect from an ESB, but all the same enjoyable and entirely drinkable. Sweet, sweet, and sweet again.

This drink pours a dark amber color and has a slight malty aroma and taste, but isn’t over powering. Although an ESB, it isn’t overwhelmingly bitter. I would call this a pretty decent beer. I would certainly have it again.

a very good beer, one which only becomes better served on cask. nicely balanced, with good toasty/biscuity malt balanced joyfully by fruity hops.

A deep amber color with a delicious, frothy head and a nice grassy aroma. Apple, pear, and caramel. A great ESB.

I really enjoyed this ESB. AleSmith has impressed me and this was just another win. Very refreshing and crisp.

Nice amber beer. Beautiful to look at and a very pleasant drink. I took my first sip while it was still in the bottle then took the second from a pinter. Subtle improved flavor and nose from the pint. Nice rich beer with a nice bite. Could use a pinch more hops but that's coming from a huge hop head. Oh...A bit pricey. Ouch!

aroma of caramel and toffee, spice, and a touch of marmalade. Excellent carbonation and mouthfeel. Toasted bread-crusts, with a gentle bitterness and a hint of hop flavour. Seriously chewy malt flavour - if you were being kind iit’s voluptuous.

Poured a hazy copper color with a small off white head. Aromas of floral hops and caramel. Taste is sweet caramel, honey and floral hops. Smooth and very drinkable.
