COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bright copper color, sparkling clarity, and good foam retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Deep toasty/caramelly malt balanced by spicy/fruity hop flavors accented by fruit esters resulting from fermentation with a championship yeast strain. The aroma is subtle and reflects the flavor with malt, hop and fruit (ester)/fermentation characteristics. Smooth, medium-bodied. Easy drinking with no harsh or astringent sensations.

From a 22 oz bottle shared at home. Pours a cloudy dark copper with a thick off white head. Malty nose. Caramel notes with some hop bitterness. Nice beer.

Pours a crystal clear dark copper/amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is malty and yeasty with a touch of candied dark fruit. Taste is nutty, toasty malt with a mild roasty bitterness at the end. The grassy hops flavor builds on the tongue as you drink but is minimal. Well balanced. Good carbonation. Love the 5.5 ABV. Rich, but not too rich.

Herbal, aged toffee, and salted cashew aroma. Flavors of toasted caramel, biscuits, ripe cherries, candied fruits, with a slight bitter finish. Easy drinking and a wonderful example of the style.

Draft at the brewery. Pours clear copper with a fizzy off white head. Tastes nutty, like dry toast, dry roasted malt, very earthy and woody. Light body and low carbonation. Smells like wood, earth, booze, and very roasted malt.

Big bottle from Appellation Wines - Cheers Ash! - shared with jeevan. Pours hazy amber/copper, thick off-white head, quite high carbonation, bit prickly in fact. Red fruits and nut aromas, very nutty. Creamy texture, light sweet taste. Touch of caramel and more nuttiness. Very nice.

"as seems to be the case far too often, Alesmith’s flagship is also their most ordinary beer. That said, it’s one of the better bitters I’ve had. Pours beautifully...a bottle conditioning induced two finger thick fluffy head on a light amber body. the aroma starts out, as does the taste (dare I say) a little too bitter for a bitter, but blossoms very nicely into an extremely well balanced, tasty brew. It gets quite good and complex as it warms. Slight fruit notes and malt sweetness with a little more hops than English versions. Bottle conditioned, so the feel is tighter carbonation and smooth. Well done

640mL bottled 04/06/14 Nice looking clear reddish amber body, holds a small off-white head. Modest aroma, subtle but there’s plenty going on; nutty, biscuity malts, toffee, plummy undertones, with earthy, spicy, dried herbal hops. Full body to it, lifted carbonation, persistent on the palate. Solid hit of tasty toasty nuts & biscuity malt upfront on palate, some burnt toffee sweetness leading into leafy hops & plummy/dark fruit esters. Reasonably high bitterness on lingering, smooth finish. Very well made ESB, Ticks all boxes.
