Ughsmash (2835), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 15, 2007 Bottle, again thanks to Jon!! Poured a beautiful deep caramelly-toasted plum with a short, very well-placed off-white head and sticky lacing.. just what I was looking for! The aroma picked up sweet floral notes, soft caramel, and a touch of toasty fruits.. really, really nice!! Flavor had light toasty caramel at the core with some biscuit and toffee notes.. mild, but well-represented dried toasty floral and perhaps grassy notes.. just a perfect balance. About medium-bodied with a terrific balance!.. sweet citrus and floral at the finish with a sweet kick. This was quite good!
Man_vs_City (13), Redmond, Washington, USA Jul 22, 2008 Growler from AleSmith Brewery in San Diego. Anvil is dark and rich flavored for an ESB, but very easy to drink with only moderate hop bitterness. It has a bit of sweetness overall, but is not cloying. Just a great, fresh, perfect brew to share on a warm summer evening. Tweety (160), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bomber, thanks doubleo! Pours a light reddish with a good-sized white head. Nice hops with some malt balance in the aroma. This is just a well-balanced drink. Neither the bitterness nor the malty sweetness overpowers, they’re just superbly well-balanced. I really enjoyed this one, and I’d love to see more beers like this widely distributed. Another Alesmith beer that it’s too bad (or maybe good) I can’t get more regularly, cuz I’d drink a LOT of it. Dogbrick (2166), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 8, 2008 Sample at San Diego Brewing Company. This beer is a clear bright amber color with a medium thin off-white that dissipates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. The aroma is malty with some fruit and hops in the background. Medium body with equal parts malt and hops flavor. Spice and fruit notes as well. The finish is sweet malt at first with mild hops left over. Not bad overall. but I expected more from Alesmith. bluemeow76 (685), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA Jul 4, 2008 On draft at San Diego Brewery. I was not overly impressed with this beer. My first impression was literally of cardboard. Very average in my opinion. blutt59 (520), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 1, 2008 bottle, ruby to orange color, very hoppy malt nose, flavor is very IPA except for the chocolate and leather notes as it finishes,
