COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bright copper color, sparkling clarity, and good foam retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Deep toasty/caramelly malt balanced by spicy/fruity hop flavors accented by fruit esters resulting from fermentation with a championship yeast strain. The aroma is subtle and reflects the flavor with malt, hop and fruit (ester)/fermentation characteristics. Smooth, medium-bodied. Easy drinking with no harsh or astringent sensations.

Bottle from Ryan & Casey’s. Dark amber body with medium, soapy toffee head. Nose is hoppy, of pine, some spices, well-rounded. Taste is hoppy up front with toasty, roasty finish. Lactic and bitter in the finish. Quite a nice bitter.

2014 bottle to a tulip glass. Pours a brilliant, crystal clear dark copper/amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is malty and bready with a touch of candied dark fruit and a bit of grassy hops. Taste is big toasty malt flavor with a roasty bitterness at the end. The grassy hops flavor builds on the tongue as you drink but is minimal. A thin-medium, slightly slick, mouthfeel. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from bottle. Pour - Pours amber red with a thick foamy head. Aroma - roasted caramel malt, touch of hops, very subtle aroma. Taste - Bitterness immediately hits first followed by very pronounced malt flavor with caramel and raisins buried in the malt taste. Kind of reminds me of raisin bread. Palate - Slick mouthfeel with barely any fizz. Light bodied. I really liked this beer. Big fan of how malty this is and how the bitterness does not overpower the rest of the brew. Definitely a good, sipper while unwinding after work.

@ Jungle Jims / Eastgate OH --- Hazy dark reddish orange with a quick to settle 1" off-white head, splotches of lace. Taste is way out of the ordinary - starts with nutty malt, adds fizz and bitters midway through the palate, then becomes dry and chalky, taking on the taste of unsweetened ice tea. I would never blind taste this as an ESB. I expected more from Alesmith (where all of the brews are supposed to be outstanding).

Bottle. Pours clear dark copper with white head, settles quickly with minimal lacing. Aroma is sweet malt, nutty, toasted, mild vegetal, light hops. Taste is big nutty, toffee, sweet malt. Caramelized sugar, with a nutty finish, slight fruitiness. Mild hop bitterness, subtle and pleasant. Drinkable and enjoyable. Moderate carbonation, medium-light body, and crisp texture.

Tap at Alesmith. Pours a dirty orange with tons of caramel on the nose and tongue. Smooth, balanced but lacking anything great.

On tap into a 4oz shaker. This starts with very mild aromas of caramel as well as some light berry notes and a light floral note, but nothing very strong. It pours a clear honey orange color with a light orange head that retains well, but leaves no lace. The taste is medium-light bitter with a light sweetness. It’s a light bodied beer with a smooth, slick texture and a soft carbonation. It finishes mostly malty with a clean finish.

Orange-brown appearance with a large head. Strong aroma of caramel. The flavor is also predominately caramel, smooth and easy drinking.

Bottle. Pours a slightly hazy dark amber color with a moderate light tan head on it. Nose is quite malt forward, with a little bit of caramel and toasting in there. I also get some earthiness in there, as well. Taste is a bit odd - slightly bitter up front, but finishes with what seems like a slightly sweetened iced tea. Not bad, but not something I would seek out again.
