373/817. Big thanks to zathrus13 for this gem. Pours from a bottle into a snifter a murky black color with a light brown head that leaves a ring and a small layer. Smell is bourbon and woody with a sweet Carmel and chocolate flavor. This beer tastes amazing!!!! It’s very mild flavor. It is a porter and a very great one at that!!!! Taste is on a thiner side, but it’s a porter. This was has held up GREAT!!!!! Thanks a ton Jeff.

Tasting at Jack’s RAH Annexe! Thanks again to Paul for allowing me to delete this one from ’the want but never gonna get’ box. Opaque dark brown beer, good pale tan head. Smooth palate. Dry rich dark malts balance well with vanilla oak. Spicy bourbon and mild dark chocolate. Light dry finish. Warming afterglow. The old BA is alive and well and potent.

Bottle at Chateau Jackl, huge thanks to Paulo Scopester for this whopper, 13/08/14 #345/817. Black with a good sized tan covering that soon dissipates to edgework and spotting. Nose is dark fruit rinds, dark chocolate, BA woody essence, spice, dates, fruit loaf. Taste comprises rich chocolate, light coconut shavings, BA bourbonage evident, woody rinse, more chocolate decadance, dark toffee fudge, light spice, vanilla essence. Medium + body, fine carbonation, light roasty vibes and BA effect in the close. Super solid stuff, this has aged really well, top draw BA stout.

Bottle, thanks to Paulie. Deep hazy brown with a small head. Toasted shredded coconut, shag tobacco, vanilla and bourbon-soaked wood. Mellow cherry meat. Some oxidization, leather. The taste has plenty of barrel character. Vanilla and caramel shake. Brownie. Slightly hot. Lives up to its name. Quite viscous and strong. Good.

A vigorous pour into my New Belgium globe glass produces a two finger thick, fairly large bubbled, brown stained, dark tan colored head. The beer is rich, concentrated brown / black color that, when held up directly to the light, shows a brilliantly clear, very dark, burnt amber hue with rich red overtones. The aroma smells prominently of Bourbon barrels; sweet, vanillin, toasted sweet coconut, bits of spicy alcohol, lots of rich toasted nutty notes, plus some ample sweet dark caramel notes, as well as lots of underlying, clean, oxidation notes that lean towards rich nutty notes, sherry, and dark, caramelized fruit.

Sweet up front, lots of toasted, caramelized nutty notes up front as well, and then the finish is hot, with spicy Bourbon, lots of toasted coconut, ample vanillin, and an astringent, woody character in the finish that amplifies the alcohol a bit. Bits of roasted character add some bitterness here, notes of cold, concentrated black coffee, and a bit of charred wood character. Nutty barrel notes are accentuated by rich sherry oxidation notes; the oxidation is well balanced by the dominant barrel notes, so it is not objectionable at all. The oxidation also accentuates some prune like fruitiness, some bourbon soaked raisins, and some fig notes.

Not bad, but not nearly what I had hoped, the Bourbon barrel is definitely dominant here, which makes the beer spicy, hot, and just a bit harsh. This is still drinkable enough though, and is good in small doses.

A- Pours a deep dark brownish hue with a solid head that dissipates to some nice lacing. S- Lots of bourbon notes, vanilla, roasted malts and hints of whiskey. T- Thick and creamy. Chocolate and roasted malt make up the backbone and give way to a big bourbon presence throughout the entirety. M- Thick with medium carbonation. D- This was a huge beer and didn’t quite come together for me but I still enjoyed it.

Old rating from ’10. A big thank you to jedwards for sharing this one!!! Bottle 250/817 Pours dark brown/black. Tan head mostly a big ring. Smell is rich roasted malt, chocolate, buttery. Huge flavor - chocolate, black licorice, butterscotch, bourbon, coconut and some alcohol. Active carbonation with a fine structure. Medium/full body - really nice and smooth. Overall this beer is really something - smooth, rich and delicious!
