COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This has proved to be a very interesting edition of Barrel Aged Decadence. The 2008 batch, an English-style barleywine aged in bourbon barrels, took on a pleasant sourness. Such quirks of nature can provide intriguing drinking experiences, like the many excellent wild ales being produced today. We think you’ll enjoy this delightfully unconventional offering.

Bottle #195/433 shared by GT2: pours a slightly hazy deep copper mahogany with a spotty-lacing beige head. Has a lightly sweet toasty dark caramel and dark fruity nose with a good amount of bourbon and vanilla. Starts with good fullness and dark malty sweetness with good complexity and light fruity tartness before a drier bittersweet finish. Well-balanced and complex and has aged well.

750mL #195 of 433 bottles. Muddy brune pour. Yellow foam. Ultra rich umami nose with truffle, soy, porcini mushroom, almost like aged dark sake or Sam Adams Millennium. Wow. Taste is tangy, red wine, soy, still so much savory character. Lemon tea. Thinner, tangy finish. Umami experience. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle courtesy of GT2, thanks! Cloudy brown color, small tan head. Aroma of vanilla, sour coffee. Taste is softly sour coffee, subtle brandy. Nice stuff.

75cl, Vintage 2008, at 11%Vol, Bottle 176/433, exclusive American brew, thx to Secret Santa!, very complex brew, malty/vinous and slightly alcoholic/woody, not too heavy, balanced, cloudy, nearly no head, very good brew, yet very expensive!

Bottle 750ml. @ The Danish Summer Gathering, TFODRBSG12, Ulfborg.

[ bottle # 105/433 ]. Clear dark brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, bourbon, caramel, chocolate, vineous, wood, alcohol, laber laver, dates, prunes. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter with a long long duration, oxidide, dark fruit, bourbon, prunes, dates, dry, fruity tart notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. Very nice and balanced ;-) [20120818]

Bottle at THE Barley Wine Tasting, London. Cheers to Paul! Pours dark brown with a creamy, tan head. Tangy, dark malts in the nose, some berries, black currants. Medium sweet flavor, pretty big on the tang front, with blueberries, more currants. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Faintly warming to finish with very tangy berries, toasty dark sugars. Interesting stuff. Rich and dynamic.

Bottle ( #245/433) at Chriso - 25/09/12 thanks to Paul/Scopey for this one. Opaque medium brown in colour with little in way of a head. Oaky woodiness on the nose allied to nuts, toffee and some spices. Sourish wood tones in the flavour allied to dark soured fruits and some toffee. Fullish body, smooth drinking, picking up wood once more in the aftertaste. Will point out this had been opened at a tasting around 4 weeks previously and corked. Definately past its prime so will need to re-visit but from what I actually drank a re-visit will be no hardship as it was still eminently drinkable.

Bottle @ THE Barley Wine Tasting. Big thanks to le Scopey for sourcing this behemoth. The pour’s deep brown with a small white head. The nose is sharp sugar cookie, some toffee, mild fruits. Booze. The taste is vinous blackcurrent, some maple, hints of vanilla and spiced fruit cake. Quite fruity. Viscous and mellow. Age has certainly smoothed the edges on this beer. Overall, quite interesting!

Bottle from a trade with richiesd, consumed at THE Barley Wine Tasting, August 2012. Bottle #245/433. Last barley wine of an epic session and thankfully a very good one at that! It pours very dark brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is very fruity indeed; blackcurrant, cherry, jammy, toasted coconut, caramel and vanilla. The taste is blackcurrant jam, tangy, currant, plum, prune, wood, caramel, vinous, vanilla and underlying alcohol warmth, with a jammy fruit finish. Full body and carbonation. Smooth, flavoursome a well balanced. Probably the most unique out of the (many) barley wines we tasted that evening. I am yet to have a bad beer for these guys!
